I'm stoked. I love DC a lot more than Marvel but I think the two Avenger films he directed were above average in regards to other MCU films and honestly other than Alien: Resurrection Whedon for me hasn't dropped the ball. So coming in to this project as a producer, writer, director is exciting.
I suppose my biggest fear is the casting, she should be an unknown imo.

WB likes to burn money so it'd probably about as expensive as Logan was ($100M) or just a tad more. |

Even IF the budget were around Batman Begins (150M) its very likely this will be WB/DC's biggest hit (comicbook movies I mean). We've seen an increase in popularity and attention from the general public about B,C,D list characters. Look at Ant-Man and Doctor Strange (and to a degree Suicide Squad) all 3 featured unknown villains or heroes and profited hugely. With Whedon being a big name with fans this could very well be a 100M+ opener with a nice finish. Oh and let's not forget Wonder Woman if it is successful then there will be more demand for female heroes on the big screen. And we've already got - BatGirl, Captain Marvel, Gotham Sirens, and possible others in development. Edit: I think this will be DC's biggest box office hit since TDK. |

I'm not really interested. Batgirl works best as either a supporting character, or as part of an ensemble, in my opinion. I also don't really like the idea of getting an MCU director to work on a DCEU film. It just strikes me as an uninspired choice.

I wouldn't sit and talk politics with the guy, but he's earned his stripes in the entertainment industry. He's a solid choice, and I bet he does a great job with it.

I'm kind of whatever about it. I'm not sure Batgirl can sustain her own movie, and as much as I like Whedon, wasn't big on the Avengers movies.

He could've directed Justice League Dark, Legion of Super Heroes, the New Gods, a really good Superman sequel, anything truly epic. Instead he's gonna work on a character that hasn't even been set up in a Batman film yet?
At least set her up first, make us WANT to see her in a solo movie. Why would I want to see "Batman lite" before they've even made a proper kickass Batman movie yet? I just don't see the sense in it.

I am excited. I am a big 'Buffy' fan but what has me even more excited is the movie is being based on Gail Simone's Post Oracle New 52 'Batgirl' Series which is one of my favourite comic book series of all time and what lead to Batgirl becoming the third biggest selling female superhero movie of all time. A 'Batgirl' movie is LONG overdue and there was a 'Batgirl' TV show with Yvonne Craig that was supposed to happen back in the 70s but didn't go through 'cause of the sexism in the industry at the time. However, it was the backlash over the 'Batgirl' TV show not going through which helped the 'Wonder Woman' show go through and this will be the very first time we have got Barbara Gordon/Batgirl on screen since Yvonne Craig played her in the Adam West 'Batman' show.
Robin has been confirmed to be making his debut in 'Batgirl' which I am pretty sure will be Tim Drake/Red Robin and Ricky and Alysia (one of the very first transgender characters in comics and Barbara's best friend and roommate) are set to appear. the Black Canary and Strix are also rumoured to make their debuts which could set up 'Birds of Prey' but the character I would like to see Batgirl face the most is Knightfall and her gang, the Disgraced (which includes Bonebreaker) and for those who never read Gail Simone's series Knightfall was Batgirl's main villain in it and if she isn't in the 'Batgirl' movie she should be in a sequel. I personally think having a female villain in this movie is the right way to go too 'cause apart from the fact we rarely ever get female superhero movies having a female supervillain in the movie would be awesome and they could have Knightfall and the Disgraced as the main villain of this movie based on 'Knightfall Descends' along with Strix who starts out as a villain and then helps Batgirl fight the Disgraced and joins the 'Birds of Prey' followed by James Gordon Jr and the Joker in the sequel based on 'Death of the Family' and the Ventriloquist (Shauna Belzer) with Ferdie, the Midnight Man and Mirror based on 'Wanted' and 'Deadline' with appearances from Black Canary, the Huntress, Batwoman, Nightwing, Red Robin, Catwoman, Katana, Poison Ivy and the Spoiler.

The story I read is that during a meeting with the WB/DC guys he saw something, a list of properties, that said Batgirl on it and said "that's my jam". So yeah, I do think that he and they are thinking a Buffy type movie. Which I kinda don't want to see. If I want to see Buffy, I'll go watch Buffy. In a major motion picture I want to see something more. |

I'm excited, I want to see a Joss Whedon directed Batgirl movie. At the same time, I do not want to see and old, bitter, brooding Batgirl. Hopefully they will learn from Wonder Woman and Buffy and the MCU.
