To quote a line from "Kung Pow; Enter the Fist" (2002),
"It will be significant."
(BTW, Kung Pow was also snubbed for the best picture Oscar)

it would be a Pyrrhic victory and damage the credibility of the Oscars in the long run. This would become THE example of a pandering Token Oscar. Anytime something is nominated or wins for pandering reasons people would call it "BlackPanther"-Oscar or an Disney-Oscar (dibs, I said it first!). As the better informed know, Disney aggressively exerts pressure on the Oscars, e.g. the recent farce of a popular Oscar ABC-Disney wanted, and the Oscars desperately need viewing number. Two years ago we saw Moonlight win over LaLaLand (which was arguable), last year we saw Get Out nominated (which was weird, good horror-comedy, but very silly). Black Panther would be nominated for best picture for what? It's an generic action film with Africans grunting like apes. Americans played royal African families since Coming to America, Marvel had black-led superheroes since Spawn and Blade. But at least it would give so much potential for mockery and laughter. Don't forget: Did we ever have a blockbuster franchise that did not get one measly Oscar after 22 movies…? Ever…? I do not wonder why…. Anyway, no wonder Disney is so aggressive. It will be amusing one way or the other. Believe me, the Oscars have lost credibility a long time ago when they didn't nominate The Dark Knight. Hell, other classic action movies have gotten snubbed for Best Picture such as Aliens, Die Hard, Terminator 2, and The Matrix. It wasn't until they nominated Mad Max: Fury Road that the idea of an action movie could win the Best Picture Oscar wouldn't be so strange now. And Black Panther and Fury Road share a few similarities (same RT score) Long time no see! Anyway, the fact that 'The Reader' got nominated for Best Picture over 'WALL-E' is a much bigger sacrilege.
