Arguably one of the most controversial movies as of recent because since Scarlett Johansson was announced as the lead accusations of "whitewashing" have surfaced.
It just so happens that Trailer 2 dropped this morning:
Have at it.

I don't like the idea of turning anime into live-action films. Not that they can't be good movies, but... I don't know? You kinda lose that anime charm to it by mainstreaming it on film. Every time I think about this film, I just see it as another Scarlett Johansson movie. And that's not how I want to see these films. The actor should never be bigger than the brand itself.

I like the trailer, but I don't think this movie will be judged on its own merit. I think people will criticize it because of the whitewashing accusations and there's always the segment that isn't happy when a movie adaptation isn't like the source material.

I have no interest in watching it. Had they kept to the original and put an Asian actress in the lead role, I would be more inclined to give it a chance.

Looks like generic "dark" sci-fi action and nothing like the original anime. I'll skip.

Totally agree, that's why I hated Michael B Jordan's casting as Johnny Storm in SHIT4STIC

The one I feel that way is Netflix's Death Note.

I will watch this movie and judge it based solely on its merits as a movie. I watched the original anime years ago but I don't recall enough about it to color my perception of this movie. Yes, it is irritating me that they whitewashed it but that's all done now, no use crying over spilled milk. The best approach is to get the best mindset to enjoy the movie.

Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite things in the world. i'll see this in the theater but i've little optimism for it. i don't trust Hollywood to write for the franchise. the whitewashing complaints are silly imo; Kusanagi has an artificial body that looks caucasian anyways.

I think it looks interesting visually. It could go either way, be total crap or really great.
The whitewashing accusation is nonsense and only white people complain about it. The Japanese are pretty content with Scar Jo playing the role.

Classic Japanese Anime done by Hollywood?
Will not be Anime, it will be a video-game tie-in.
Directed by Rupert Sanders
Produced by Avi Arad Steven Paul
Written by Jamie Moss Ehren Kruger
I thought this was a Brave new globalized world, where are the Japanese creators?
It better be extremely cool to look at- otherwise- (puke)what is the point here?

I really liked the anime. I don't know anything about Rupert Sanders. Hopefully he his own adaption of the story is interesting and fun.

Regardless of whatever the final product looks like, it will be nothing new. every trailer shows the keypoints of the previous additions. Literally every "cool" scene from the original 1995 anime have been remade (rooptop leap, camo-alley fight, tank fight, etc...).
The plot/ dialogue is so bad compared to the original, they could have changed the name & no one would have noticed.
The PG-13 Rating is spitting in the face of the original anime & manga, which used blood/ violence to show how much disregard cyborgs would have for their hardware.
The Whitewashing is smokescreen bullshit, the Major is a cyborg w/a cyber-sleeve, that means she is 99% synthetic, everything except some gray matter has been replaced. Once you have a cyber-sleeve, race/ ethnicity, skin color, & everything else goes right out the window.
They lost me on this one, & i spoke my mind about boycotting it & got all my posts reported/ deleted for no good reason.

At least it looks better than the KITE remake.
