A loud disastrous mess. All the worse considering its following TDK's saga tone & vision.
Superman should be strong & friendly neighbourhood like Reeve. Not indifferent & emo like Cavill.

One of my favorite superhero films. Love the Batman Begins meets War if the Worlds vibe
Also anyone thought the character played by Christopher Meloni was surprisingly memorable? He was just as heroic as any superhero
Also Faora was bad ass and should be brought back as the main villain on a future DC film

- Cavill's Superman looks constantly angry. It's clear Snyder was imitating Batman Begins, but that approach and tone doesn't work as well for the Man of Steel. It feels like since the success of Batman Begins that every comic book superhero now has to be a dark, brooding warrior like Batman. This approach doesn't work with all these characters. It’s really Man of Steel that went for that approach. Most superhero movies these days have a lot of humor and don’t take themselves too seriously. Arguably sometimes TOO much humor

I didn't think it was an awful movie but much like 'Superman Returns' I found it disappointing 'cause I didn't think they needed to reboot Superman from the beginning again and would have liked a movie that had some of his other villains instead of the same ones that had already been used in movies before. Zod was a better choice than Lex Luthor 'cause Lex Luthor has been played out to death in Superman movies and TV Shows but I would rather see Superman face villains like Braniac, Bizarrio, Atomic Skull, Parasite, The Eradicator, Darksied, Maxima, Metalio and Imperiex in movies. Plus while Henry Cavill and Amy Adams aren't Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher will always be the best Lois and Clark to me.

darkreviewer2013Keep in mind I don't rate movies by genre etc as when I rate a movie I rated it in relation to ALL movies I have seen and in a basic sense the more I enjoy a movie the higher the score and the less I enjoy a movie the lower the score. this should help you understand why I only gave it a 6-6.5/10 as while that's not a high score it's still high enough to be within my Top 234 movies simply because there are only 234 movies I scored a 6-6.5/10 or higher out of the 2,225+ total movies I have seen. also, I assume given your IMDb2 picture your probably a big fan of super hero movies in general but none of them are THAT great for me even though Man of Steel is the only one just shy of My Favorite Movies level status as all other super hero movies top out at a 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up) as any lower than that (i.e. 5/10 or less) goes into Thumbs Down territory. also, there are not many super hero movies for me that are worth re-watching and, like I always say, a movies true worth boils down to whether I want to re-watch a movie from time-to-time or not as that determines my basic... 5/10 or less = Thumbs Down (won't re-watch (with rare exception)), 6/10 or higher = Thumbs Up (will re-watch). also, I tend to like DC over Marvel as there are more movies worth re-watching from DC than there are from Marvel. I think the Thor series is pretty much the only Marvel super hero movies ill re-watch off the top of my head. also, at one point I had The Dark Knight (2008) as a 9/10 but it currently sits at a 5.5-6/10 (i.e. barely a Thumbs Up) as out of that trilogy I like Batman Begins (2005) (6/10) the most as The Dark Knight Rises (2012) (5/10) is no longer worth re-watching for me as of re-watches of those three movies in Feb 2018. I seen The Dark Knight Rises (2012) a total of three times but as of that 3rd viewing, which was in Feb 2018, it's no longer enjoyable enough for me to re-watch it. another thing... while I said The Dark Knight (2008) was a 9/10 at one point for me that took a hit from it's 9/10 back to a 6/10 on Apr 4th 2014 as my previous re-watch prior to that was Dec 27th 2011 and at that time it's 9/10 status remained. so basically somewhere between Dec 2011 and Apr 2014 it took a hit. I have seen The Dark Knight (2008) at least four times total but could be a bit more as I have only been logging all movies I see since Dec 27th 2011 to date and being I got that movie logged three times on file and I know I have seen it at least once prior to that I know I have seen it a bare minimum of four times but I would guess probably around 5 times. p.s. but I have noticed that since around 2012-2013 a decent amount of movies I used to score a bit more highly have been dropping off as just looking at the movies I score a 10/10, of which there are currently eight movies, that figure used to be roughly triple that figure not all that long ago. hell, looking at some of my older log files from Nov-Dec 2013 there was a total of 73 movies I scored a 9/10 or 10/10 combined but now that figure sits at only 21 movies. so while it sucks the movies dropped off in score, to look on the positive side of things, it makes me appreciate the movies that remain that much more. but I do think say 10 years ago or so I tended to score too many movies a bit too highly but as time passed my scoring system and general scoring movies became more refined as how I score movies now tends to reflect what I really think of them quite a bit more accurately than it did say about 10 years ago or so. like nowadays... only about 8.5% of all movies I have seen are good enough to make My Favorite Movies and even being a bit generous, say counting those 6-6.5/10 range of movies to, that figure is still floating around 10%. or to look at things in terms of will I re-watch a movie or not re-watch a movie that figure is only about 25% TOPS of all movies I have seen are worth re-watching. NOTE: I never restrict ratings on movies either as it's simply how things played out and like I already said the more I enjoy a movie the higher the score and the less I enjoy it the lower the score. most movies I see score a 5/10 as while that's a Thumbs Down those movies are usually at least okay enough not to have wasted my time but since I have no desire to re-watch them they are ultimately forgettable.

Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman was my introduction to Superman growing up and it took me a good while to warm to any other actors playing those roles. Hatcher's Lois Lane has never been surpassed.

The MCU movies are tonally lighter for the most part. Although it varies from movie to movie and I haven't seen Infinity War yet. The humour in those movies generally appeals to me though.

Let me start by saying I am not nor have I ever been much of a fan of Superman. At least not until I watched the 1990's animated show earlier last year, which is the only version of Superman that I am fully satisfied with at this point.
Does Man of Steel sort of re-write the character and tone in some big ways? Yes.
Do I care? No.
Overall I give the movie a mild thumbs up. It is a mess from a writing standpoint and the tornado scene in cringe-inducing, but there is a lot of stuff about the movie I like. I like the more cynical Pa Kent and I think Costner perfectly portrays him, I think Diane Lane is terrific here, I love the writing of Zod as a tragic and complex villain rather than just a guy who is evil, I think Russell Crowe is much better than Brando as Jor-El and I like the writing of his dialogue (which is clearly written by Nolan), I like that Clarke is portrayed as feeling out of place and in constant angst due to his being different and it has some of the most intense and visceral action scenes I have ever seen.
I have seen many people who complain that the action scene at the end goes on for too long, but I was completely engaged and on the edge of my seat the whole time.

I remember enjoying it overall but the sequence that stands out in my memory was Supes vs Faora and Namek. Faora stood out as a much more interesting villain than Zod in this.

3/10 I did not enjoy it. Very odd because I love Batman V Superman.

I liked Erica Durance as Lois in 'Smallville' too but Teri's version was iconic and I loved their versions of Jimmy Olsen and Perry White too and always thought Perry's Elvis obsession was funny and how they would only show his Wife, Alice from behind or her arms and legs but you never got to see her face. I also thought they had a good version of Lex Luthor even though he wasn't bald and the only disappointing thing about the show for me is they were blocked from using a lot of Superman's villains which is why they had to create a different version of General Zod called Lord Noir and I think if they had the rights to use them they could have done justice to some of them but they did create Tempus and he was one of the standout villains on the show and I am surprised they didn't add him to the comic books or use him in 'Smallville.'

Even though I have it on DVD I have to acknowledge that it's not a perfect movie. For example, the writer's characterized Costner's version of Pa Kent as overprotective of Clark to point of not allowing Clark to save him from the twister was a flaw. Henry Cavill's broody Superman took getting used to because I grew up with Christopher Reeves' sunnier tempered Superman. I liked that Amy Adams' incarnation of Lois Lane figured out quickly that Clark and Superman were one and the same. I had no problem with Superman having to kill Zod to save an innocent family.

Lane Smith was perfect as Perry White. The casting for that show was truly superb. I enjoyed John O' Shea as Lex Luthor. They went the corrupt billionaire businessman route as opposed to the notorious crime lord one adopted in the movies and I liked the change. Season 1 was probably the best, though the series remained solid at least until Season 4.

A bit of a mess, but better than anything else I've seen from Zack Snyder (I refuse to watch 300).

Didn't care for it. It sucked all of the hope and fun out of the character and had a very bland aesthetic. Johnathan Kent was also handled very poorly.
