A bit of a mess, but better than anything else I've seen from Zack Snyder (I refuse to watch 300). His Dawn of the Dead remake and Watchmen are both pretty good.

Incidently those are the two others I've seen from him. I remember thinking "Dawn of the Dead" was alright, not really a huge fan of zombies in general though. His "Watchmen" film was a mixed bag, some good things (Rorschach in particular), but the pacing felt rather rushed (that's what happens when you try to cram a comic book series into a two hour film.)

The ultimate cut of the film (215 minutes) is the best version available but still has its flaws. 8/10.

Dawn of the Dead '04 is his best film by a wide margin. It's a genuinely thrilling zombie scarefest. And it doesn't possess that weird rusty look that crops up in his other movies. I'm not quite sure how to explain it.
