Thanos's plan came from the comics. They partially used Thanos's plan from The Infinity Gauntlet. They kept his quest for the Infinity Stones, but they changed the motive. They came up with the elimination of 50% of sentient life in the universe. Death gave Thanos the task of killing half of the universe because there were more people being born than dying. Thanos went after the Infinity Gems to make it go faster. The only thing that changed was taking Death out of the story and it being about resources.

You know I've always wondered if the Snap only affected one Universe or did it effected multiple Universes?
Could we be looking at a scenario where Thanos not only cut the population in half in the MCU universe, but other universe as well (assuming you accept the Multi-Verse theory)
And if it does than Thanos kill count is beyond anything we could comprehend.

I’ve been thinking that The Avengers plan in Endgame with all the time traveling and whatnot is going to end up creating the Multiverse. Maybe even possibly some worlds will collide. It’d be a pretty great way to introduce X-Men into the MCU.
