I'm not defending Moyes, but he probably intended it in a light hearted jokey kind of way. Obviously he shouldn't have said it at all, but I think I'd like to hear the recording so I can gauge his tone. But we all make errors in judgement, especially when we're under the cosh, okay I don't remember ever threatening any females but I've definitely said shit I'm embarrassed about. Very stupid thing for Moysie to say though, regardless of the circumstances.

I've had hard times in my job, I've never threaten to slap a woman for doing her job in a way I don't like.

Nah, he was joking!
That said, Sunderland aren't going to get a better chance to sack him than that! They must really like the work he is doing at the bottom of the table!

"Joking" about slapping a female journalist for doing his job.

This is nonsense, check this out,
Imagine she was in any of these guys place, especially the Joe Kinnear one, don't remember too many people talking about him losing his job for that one and it was much worse.
I don't have a problem with the reporter, she seemed to take it as joke (which it clearly was), its the people demanding his sacking or to have disciplinary actions against him I have problems with, they are basically saying women are too weak and need extra protection.

Their both laughing for Christ's sake.
You sound like a fucking old fish-wife gossiping over the fence. Tell it to Twitter.
Maybe get out more.

This isn't about the media or the FA. The journalist grasped it was a joke. There was no complaint made.
This was about Twitter. This kind of immense fuck wittery is always about Twitter.

Speaking of manager meltdowns, I have fond memories of Kevin Keegan with those stupid oversized headphones. Masterstroke of winding him up by Alex Ferguson.

If she's just been a bitch, and we're both laughing about it, yeah I might jokingly suggest she'll get a slap (if she's a good friend, I might even be tempted to say I'll put her over my knee).
There is no story here. Twitter is not news (you and the mainstream media should keep repeating that).

There is no story here. Twitter is not news (you and the mainstream media should keep repeating that). She wasn't being a bitch though, she'd asked him a perfectly normal question. He took exception to it because he's an ultra-prickly cunt whenever anyone suggests he might not be doing a good job or ought to be held to the same standards as other managers. It's especially bad here because he's trying to stop a journalist doing her job and doing it with a "jokey" threat of violence that elicits nervous laughter. If someone much bigger, richer and stronger than you, someone you rely on for your job, made a "joke" about how you should stop annoying them or they'd slap you around would you laugh? If it was someone who has been accused of beating people up when under pressure in the past? I think most people would. There's a power balance there that you're completely ignoring.

Gotta say I agree with bullet proof vest on this...
Anyway, Sunderland have said that they stand by Moyes, but what he said was wholly unacceptable...
Which I take to mean he has been given a right bollocking, and will receive some remedial training.

I'm a little surprised they've decided to keep him, opportunities to get shot of that guy without paying up huge amounts of money are rare.
I'm not surprised from an ethical point of view though, Sunderland is a club whose morals are beneath contempt. Football seems to have forgiven them for keeping Adam Johnson when they knew he was a nonce.

Well as BulletProofVest has had a hate campaign against Moyes ever since he was announced as Manager of United, despite being sacked that hate and biased opinion has continued I hardly think he is someone who can be called objective. It was a comment, misguided in this pc day and age, and certainly making stupid comments is what everyone has done at some time, and apologised for the most part as Moyes has done. This remedial training, dear Lord the classes would be full, filling the pockets of the entrepreneurs that thrive on telling people they need this nonsense. There are people with anger issues and have violent behaviour, they are the people with the need of professional help, I don't believ, from what I have seen, that Moyes falls into those categories.

I don't hate Moyes, I just hold him in contempt personally and professionally. As far as anger issues and violent behaviour are concerned, Moyes was accused of beating people up in a wine bar in Clitheroe by multiple witnesses shortly after being sacked from United. The police dropped it because it wasn't exactly clear what had gone on but he's not the saint his media image suggests. If I was a woman and he "joked" that I might get a slap I'd take heed of the warning.

I don't know who either of these people are (I'm a Yank) so I read the linked Telegraph article from the OP, then watched this YouTube vid of the comments: youtu.be/XVrhoiYLC4wThe dude was joking. It's completely obvious he was joking. The reporter was laughing. Can anyone with a functioning brain watch that and really think it's a threat of violence or some attempt at intimidation? Feminists can't have it both ways. If you wanted to be treated the same way as men, then you take the good with the bad. You don't get to pick and choose. If this coach had said that to a male reporter, they would have laughed and no one would have even batted an eye.
