Rotten Tomatoe consesus "Packed with action, humor and visual thrills, Captain Marvel introduces the MCUs latest HERo with an origin story that makes effective use of the franchises signature formula" So nothing new or original, just the same usual MCU movie filled with comedy and CGI action with little depth and its currently at 86%. Astonishing action, jokes and cgi effects.
true its an astonishing 86%. we need a new word for bias

The RT percentage is around Infinity War numbers, and most of us call that movie as "mixed" or "divisive".Most of who, the legally blind? Sorry, typo. I meant to say most of us *don't call that divisive or mixed.

Funny, that sounds like Shazam. Jokes are only really a problem in Marvel movies. For some reason, they can be overlooked in Star Wars, Die Hard, The Godfather or even other superhero movies. There's a fair few posters here who'd be tearing Deadpool a new asshole if it was an MCU movie.

Amongst comic book movies you have some movies like The Dark Knight, Punisher and Logan or even Dredd and then on the other side you have movies like Deadpool, Guardians of the Galaxy and Fantastic Four. Even amongst the DCEU you have Man of Steel and then on the flip side you have Shazam. With the MCU they all have that same jokey feel to them. Some more than others but they all have jokes. None of them are dark or serious or R Rated, they're all light PG-13 movies with a lot of jokes, every one of them.

Yes, jokes are fine for "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" or "Lethal Weapon" but put jokes in an MCU movie and it becomes "kiddie stuff".

For me, that's a lot darker than having blood, tits and characters droping f-bombs every 10 minutes. I'd say the light tone is there so when something serious happens it's even more effective. The main strength of Civil War's airport scene in my opinion is that when shit got real later on, the audience felts it harder. That's just my opinion anyway.

It does when they undercut the drama or seriousness of heavy handed moments. You mean exactly like they did in the comics back when comics sold in large numbers?
How about when Butch and Sundance were cracking jokes after both were shot and they were about to run out into almost certain death?
How about Martin Riggs doing the 3 Stooges in the middle of a drug deal with a bunch of armed killers?
Give it up. Mixing large doses of action, comedy, and drama has been the successful action movie formula since "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and "Gunga Din".

They may have some comedic moments, but there's more drama in them. Even Infinity War to some degree had some human drama to it.

^ This. The main reason the snap was such a gut punch to many people was because of the humour and fairly light tone. If the whole movie had the tone of a Snyder movie, audiences would have left cinemas not knowing what they were meant to be feeling.

I knew this would happen. If you happen not to like this movie you have to be a man hating woman. As its not possible for a woman not to like this movie.

Captain Marvel is already certified fresh, less than 7 hours after first reviews hit. Fastest ever?

It's at 84% now. Which I think if it stays at that would make it the lowest rated since Age of Ultron.
