Man I'm really disappointed that this film isn't doing as well as i hoped.
Aquaman, an inferior film, gets a billion but not this?

This generation are into more action and CGI than storytelling. Especially overseas. Plus Aquaman is a little more popular than Shazam.

With Endgame coming out this weekend, and taking majority of screens, Shazam may only finish at around $150 million domestically. Which is no means a flop. It was never going to be a major hit.

This fantastic movie is paying for the sins of DC's past.

This fantastic movie is paying for the sins of DC's past. I had first hand experience with this. I tried getting a few people to go see it with me. They flat out turned me down for 2 reasons. They basically said that they didn't want to take a chance on it because the trailer didn't appeal to them and previous DC movies. They had liked the trailers for BvS, Justice League, WW, and Aquaman and went to go see them and were burned 2 times out of 4. They didn't like the trailers for Shazam so they weren't going to risk it. They'd catch it digitally at home.

$326,501,787. Hoping it makes it to at least $400m.

This doesn't appear to have been a flop and likely will be profitable but it hasn't been a real success.
I know it didn't cost as much but as I said earlier this is looking to be only the second live action Marvel/DC superhero movie to fail to reach $400 million in the past 7 years.
This and Fantastic Four.
A bit unfortunate, probably lost out being sandwiched in-between two bigger superhero movies.
In hindsight this year had one of the slowest starts in years. It wasn't until Captain Marvel that there was a bit of a boost. So this could have done with releasing in February.

Looks like Avengers really did kill this off. Movie dropped a massive 38% on Thursday and made only $628,000
Down 75% from last week. Looks like it'll finish in the $130 million range.
It's at $334.5 million now.

It's at $334.5 million now. Damn. I was hoping it could survive a little bit longer. It's made enough for a sequel. While I didn't love the movie, I did like it, it laid a pretty strong foundation for the next movie. I just hope they start making soon so the Actor playing young Billy doesn't hit his growth spurt. It will be like Walt in Lost. Walt went from 10yo to man size in one summer.

I'm just glad it made money and performed well for the critics. That means WB/DC will hopefully take note and bring us more. I definitely want to see a sequel to this.

Unfortunately WB is in a ‘Transformers’ position where lackluster movies like Suicide Squad made more than double what this one did. Logically, it doesn’t make any sense to allocate resources to a sequel for this guy instead of something grittier or slightly more adult-oriented. However, he has to be a lock for the next teamup movie. Aquaman-Shazam: The Curse of Vandal Savage. Something like that I’d be down for.

A bigger mistake than anything they’ve committed thus far. Isolated heroes will be an extraordinarily tough sell in a post-Avengers world.

Their most successful movies have been the ones that have as little to do with a shared universe as possible. The shared universe nonsense did these movies zero favors, so why bother continuing with it? There’s no point in trying to replicate Marvel’s success. They should just do their own thing.

Aquaman’s hype was coming off his appearance in the teamup movie, and involved plot elements from said movie. BvS made way more than Man of Steel, Suicide Squad way more than Shazam. Wonder Woman 2 will make good money, Batman too, but nothing else will make close to what The Suicide Squad does. Even Venom was promised as part of a larger connected universe. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 openly integrated X-Men. Wonder Woman preceded her teamup movie by mere months. What movies since Avengers were truly stand alone? Shazam, Hellboy reboot, TMNT reboot, Dredd reboot. Pennies to the dollar of what could be.

JL was a flop that did virtually nothing to improve Aquaman’s public image. Also, if you want to talk about BvS supposedly making money, I’ll just point out that the film wasn’t even the highest grossing Batman movie. The shared universe approach did DC absolutely absolutely no favors. Marvel beat them to it. No other franchise will ever have the novelty that the MCU managed to achieve, so there’s no point in trying to replicate their success. They’re better off going in a completely different direction. By the way, I’ll eat my shoe if the Matt Reeves Batman “movie” ever even gets made.
