It seems that the structure is ok. The spire that collapsed was a 19th century addition, but the roof is a huge loss. That was the original wood and it's amazing it lasted as long as it did, and equally sad that it's totally gone now. I wonder if the folks at the Catholic league and other members of the church will be as willing to blame this on the Church's own conduct and see this as some sort of retribution the way they've blamed others for the tragedies that have befallen them. Can I just say the "Catholic League" of the US are a fecking eejit fringe minority within Catholicism, and not representative of anyone but themselfs. Wouldn't it be better if they pissed off and admitted they are evangelical fundos rather than Catholics 🤷 |

Some nice silver linings coming out of this fire, nobody killed, massive donations coming in(that Salma Hayek is well sorted!) and the structure seems ok.
So its still on me bucket list(along with the GoldenGate Bridge, Grand Canyon etc) for when I win the lotto and travel the world

Jesus hasn't said anything about not spending money on infrastructure that helps the economy in the long run. About 10 years back India was spending money on its space organization. The far leftist idiots were crying why the poor country India doesn't feed poor with the money instead of spending on the useless space program. Turns out space program of India helped develop warning signs against cyclones which saved the lives of 1000s of people over the last 5 years. You have no idea just how big is the architecture industry and how it is a permanent source of generating revenue and moving the economy forward. Notre Dame was the no.1 tourist destination of France (bigger than their Effiel tower). Please do not use religions in making emotionally charged arguments. Spending money in sources that happen to create revenue every year in the future is not a bad use of money.
