A-
This one took time & a few viewings to a. get over the Leo-Kate dynamics on-screen, which naturally drew me to the picture in the first place, + b. the sandpaper drama of the characters, which at first seemed too much & annoying.
Nowadays it's a fine film, with Mendes' lens & Newman's idyllic score (same duo & similar retro call backs to Road to Perdition for me*). The crux is pretty interesting - couples arguing over the myth of how couples should be living. Heck, I think we've all seen it in real life. Ppl are frustrated with not being able to attain something that isn't even real lols. Kate is great, Leo is low key enough to share the screen. The movie delivers like a strong stage play, with good pacing & energy.
Shoutout Mendes' commentary, pointing out there's a framed photo of the Titanic, rotated in the background sitting on the floor, during one of Leo & Kate's tiffs.
