She was the queen. Even if it got back to Robert (highly unlikely, Cat didn't even bring it up to Ned.) what was the worst that could happen? All Cersei had to say was she was trying to comfort another mother in her time of need. Absolutely nothing bad for Cersei could have come from the lie. And her wanting Cat to lose hope and let Bran die was very much in Cersei's best interest. I don't follow how Cersei's story could have any effect on Bran's health. If Cat did lose hope, if anything it would encourage Cat to resume her duties as Lady of Winterfell (which both Maester Luwin and Robb wanted her to do) which might include investigating the circumstances of the fall...
What it could do is draw suspicion ('why did she lie--and so stupidly?') at a time when Cersei did have something to hide. Your position seems to be that it couldn't possibly be true and Cat would know that which I find incompatible with the fact Cersei would know that too and it would just cause Cat to wonder about her, not 'comfort' her. I don't see how it's all that comforting anyway to tell that story with Bran comatose.
Hey, look at that. We are having a decision where we disagree and neither of us are slinging insults, attacking each others mental capacities, or flushing each other. This is nice. As for your questions about my theory, I'll have to get back to you in the morning. Thank you for the back and forth.

how would cat know? is not like they are pen pals , i never heard or read anything to suggest cersei was lying about having an infant baby die she wasnt lying and you can tell by that scene cersei was very moved and touched no matter what she and jamie did or what jamie did to bran cersei is a mother she understood cats pain and she related a story to her about her own loss .she even described in detail how her baby looked more like robert and it was only child she had with robert. And here it is from the books robert was there too "Such a little thing. A bird without feathers. They came to take his body away and Robert held me. I screamed and I battled, but he held me. That little bundle. They took him away and I never saw him again."
―Cersei Lannister to Catelyn StarkThis is show only. Cersei never had a short-lived child with Robert in the books. Instead, the fat wanker who likes to portray men hating harpies has her recall how she would service him by hand and lick her fingers afterwards, fantasising about killing his offspring. That's his level. Cersei was made into a believable character in the show and that scene in S1E02 is there to show the duality in her. On one side you have the adulteress who has a personal interest in Bran never saying anything, on the other you see the mother who never wanted any of this to happen and is truly sorry. Then on top you get the dumb little haters who cannot live with anything that's not black or white and jump to whatever conclusions makes them feel easier. They are your typical Daenerys fan, cheering at her crucifying them all because it's just simpler that way.

Yes, he does. It is what the 15 year old consider "adult" stuff. Book-Cersei is some teenage boy's fantasy when the show version is a woman. That's why I keep calling him a fat wanker.
