it is said that each person has a (more or less pronnounced) preference for what works on them. what motivates them the most/ accelerates their journey to reach a specific goal the most.
some get better results it they are promised money some if praised some if criticised some if promised higher status/respect
if you had to chose, which one do you believe works on you the most?
the purpose is to chose the one thing out of the four that would have moved you the most in the right direction if offered.
lets say you have a specific goal you want to reach
(lose weight, run a marathon, clean your place, produce a new ppt at work; whatever)
which one of the four if given to you is Most Likely to move you in the right direction the most?
if someone paid you to do it, if someone praises you for doing it, if someone gives you a title or it moves you higher o the social hierarchy/gets you social recognition or if someone critices you for not doing it yet?

I would have said money, but since I make so little of it, I'm going to go with something that wasn't an option on your list: Accomplishment.

Not much...
And not really any of the things you've listed.
At least not on a consistent or regular basis.

Free time & experiences. Money enables that, so I guess I'll say it.

Not much... And not really any of the things you've listed. At least not on a consistent or regular basis. it is one of the things from the four for everyone - relatively - which one has the biggest chance to sway you in the right direction. thats what I mean. if you are not into doing something (laziness, or just not seeing the benefit of doing it) and are offered money or praise or change in status for doing it or are critisized for. ot doing it which one of these has the biggest effect on you/is most likely to move you in certain direction?

Excitement. In other words, things that excite me. Naked women, art, and music to name a few. I reworded the question please see above. People were not answering the right way perhaps i worded it poorly before.

Hmm... Difficult to decide. 1. I've got enough money. 2. I'm suspicious of brown-nosers. 3. Status is meaningless because we all end up dead. 4. And critics can go fuck themselves...

I reworded the question please see above. People were not answering the right way perhaps i worded it poorly before. Progress of what? Do you mean, "What motivates you at work?" Because if that's the question, then the answer is nothing. But there are things in life that I find motivational. are you saying that if at work you experienced 1. getting a raise or 2. being publicly praised or 3. getting a VP/Chief of sometning title or 4. being critisized none of it would have ANY effect on you/your work whatsoever? I find it hard to believe, honestly. It may not work wonders on you but it certainly has some effect. Maybe it has the opposite effect and you actually start to slack more. Which one would then have the least impacr and work from there in. even if the effect is small, Which one would have the biggest positive effect on you is what I am asking (or the least negative). Yes think about work for now.

Acknowledgement and statement of a job well-done. Simple, verbal, "hey, thanks for getting that project done so well and on time. I really appreciate your hard work."
It doesn't cost a cent. Positive reinforcement.
Where I used to work, the only positive reinforcement was the absence of negative reinforcement. It was a toxic workplace, and I finally quit after 11 years. It was sucking the life out of me.
