"Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you; Jesus Christ and the American G. I. One died for your soul; the other for your freedom."
Who said that Blade? Google says: Author unknown. But obviously it was a liar.

You can stay out of my threads SuperCreepyDude, thanks. Your involvement in any thread only involves disrupting it ...not discussing anything.

Whilst I actually agree with the sentiment, a first as far as posts you have made goes, I wonder why only American G.I.'s are included, soldiers of all nationalities have died for my freedom.

Numbers might have something to do with it. Reminds me of the movie "The Glory Brigade" in which a Greek-American lieutenant in the Korean War tells the Greek lieutenant, "We're ten to one to the rest of you." I try to give credit where it is due. Once on the Q & A site where I used to hang out, there was a question about the weapons used in the Gulf War, and someone gave an overly-long list of American weapons systems. I came in and added the weapons systems from Britain, France, and other Gulf Coalition countries. Another tried to say it was an American victory with modest help from allies, and I corrected that smartass too, especially with regard to the Egyptian and Syrian forces. And I must say that if they gave their lives for our freedom, they may have thrown it away for nothing, because we are not free. We are watched and numbered and to a large degree controlled by our governments.

But here is the big difference. Jesus didn't go into wars murdering women and children and other innocent civilians to die for us. He preached peace. Now here is the similarity: Jesus might be a myth. That soldier killing those innocent civilians for our freedoms, that is definitely a myth. It is nothing but propaganda bullshit that soldiers are dying for our freedoms. Since when were they ever at stake when those soldiers go overseas to invade a peaceful homeland? If they were dying at an invading force that attacked DC? Yeah, then and only then will I believe they are dying for our freedoms. But until then, it is nothing but a big lie that they are. Your mind is blown and mic dropped.

As a Brit I can tell you for a fact American soldiers(around 400,000 of them) did die to preserve my freedom from Nazi tyranny and for the liberation of occupied Europe, along with millions of other allied troops(my grandfather among them). Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and the way you casually mention soldiers killing innocent civilians as if that's the norm means you're disrespecting both their memories and the job that serving soldiers are doing today.

And I am focusing solely on the American involvement. Millions have given their lives in order to maintain freedoms, just like your freedom to talk the garbage you are spouting on here.

Usually they go to war with people who quite happily gun down civilians, with not a peep out of the usual self-important peaceniks.
It is unfortunate civilians get caught up in war, but the price of not doing anything to combat tyranny and evil could be very high.

In all fairness, the US was never in danger of invasion from either the Japanese or the Germans. However, other countries were, and American lives were indeed lost in defence of other peoples' freedom. Not American lives alone, and the US was probably the country that lost the least during the war of all participants. But American contribution was invaluable. Not just in winning the war (though certainly that), but also in rebuilding Europe (and Japan) afterwards.

I agree completely with the rest of your post as well. Japan could well have fared much worse had the Russians had their way.

Other than that, I hate the fucking military and have no respect for it. If they want my respect than they need to stop with the killing of civilians which is the norm. Have you ever heard of the My Lai massacre in Nam? That is just the tip of the iceberg and one of the few and only times they ever got caught at it and went to trial.

Hawaii, which we invaded and just stole from the native people there, was not a state at the time. So the attack on Pearl Harbor was as close to bombing the mainland as any of the WW2 enemies was going to get. We were always safe from any harm from Germany and Japan. Show me any examples as to where any soldiers in any modern wars sacrificed themselves for my freedom here. Since when was there any threat at all to any of our freedoms from a foreign enemy?

If it wasn't for corporate interests, we would keep to our own and stay out of it and let them resolve their own problems, which is how it should be. Why didn't we step in and try and stop the slaughter of Rwanda? What resources do they have that we want? If that had been an oil rich country with the reserves under threat of not being shipped to America anymore, you bet your butt we would have been there in a NY minute.

So, you're against intervening, but when the US stays out of it, they should draw fire for not intervening? They were involved on a humanitarian level, as were other UN nations. Such was Rwanda's opinion of French involvement, they changed their national language from French to English. As it happens, the country they export the most products to outside Africa is the US. Mainly coffee, tea, hides and tin ore.

So is it only the US, or are you this critical of other militaries too? The Russians don't seem too bothered about wasting civilians, nor the Syrians, the North Koreans, China isn't exactly a bastion of human rights. The US gets stick because they're supposed to be above that. Things have changed since the Vietnam War, you get the occasional bad apple, but today's troops are generally better disciplined and targeting noncombatants leads to court martial and prison. Vietnam in fact would make a more considerable foe than before, they are now in possession of one of the largest armed forces in the world.
