That seems to be the go-to argument for whenever people want to criticize Gal Gadot's acting. I've seen a lot of hyperbolic comments made about how she's difficult to understand, and how she apparently sounds like a female Tommy Wiseau. On a lesser note, there have also been a fair share of people who have argued that Wonder Woman should only speak with an American accent, while offering a pretty flimsy explanation for why they consider that to be the case. I just have to say that I can't for the life of me understand where these people are coming from.
Outside of the obvious fact that Wonder Woman isn't even supposed to be an American, Gal Gadot's accent is hardly incomprehensible. Let me just say this; I have been living in the United States since the day I was born, and I couldn't fluently speak a foreign language to save my life. Despite that however, I have no problem understanding Gal Gadot's dialogue as Wonder Woman. Do some people just have a difficult time understanding any accent that isn't of Anglo origin?

I remember debating with some guy who kept insisting that since she's in America then she should speak in an American accent. What nonsense. Personally I think her accent just adds to her badassery.

Wasn't Wonder Woman originally Greek? I'm sorry my comic knowledge is a bit iffy, but if I remember correctly, her mum was a Greek Goddess who created WW out of clay. Or something like that.

I don't have a problem with her accent. It's her poor acting I have issues with.

I thought the accent was fine. Helps give her an exotic quality. She's not American after all.

For some reason, her accent is much easier for me to understand than the British accents of actors they keep sticking in these movies.

Yeah I have a problem since WW has always been depicted with an American Accent and in the comics she has the ability to speak all languages fluently.
It's not the only criticizm she can't save her life and too skinny as well.
That's three strikes, if she at least had something going for her zi would be cool.

We've had this argument before, but being able to speak English fluently doesn't mean she would randomly adopt an American accent. English didn't even originate in America.

Simply saying that she should sound American doesn't mean it's true.

That's not what being fluent means. Fluent means you can express yourself in a language. I'm fluent in Spanish. Yet I still have a noticeable accent when I speak it. There are plenty of foreign professionals who speak the language fluently but still have an accent. Being fluent does not translate to speaking exactly like them. Especially since a country as large as America has a variety of English dialects and accents. Exactly what American should Wonder Woman sound like? A southerner? A Texan? A New Yorker? The Bronx or Brooklyn? Someone from Chicago? Or maybe Minnesota? Each of those places has their own American accent. Heck, there are accents between Americans who are white and Americans who are black.

Wonder Woman sounding foreign actually feels more realistic. What wouldn't be realistic is if she talked with a southern drawl or something.

I hate to break it to you but you are not fluent in Spanish if you speak the language and don't sound like somebody in a Spanish Speaking country would. I have heard that comment before "but America has all kinds of accents",still does not change anything about fluency and does not change the fact that WW should still sound American. I hope your last sentence was a joke,if not I don't know what to say.
