With the new NFL season fast approaching, I was wondering what are some of your favourite football movies? Please feel free to share which team you support, if you would like to. I'll hopefully be on the imdb2 sports board soon cheering on the Cleveland Browns.
Go Browns!
My favourites :
13. 'The Freshman' (1923)
12. 'Johnny Be Good' (1988)
11. 'Everybody's All-American' (1988)
10. 'Remember The Titans' (2000)
09. 'The Best Of Times' (1986)
08. 'North Dallas Forty' (1979)
07. 'All The Right Moves' (1983)
06. 'The Express' (2008)
05. 'The Comebacks' (2007)

Have you seen 'Moneyball'? It's an interesting sports story. Paul DePodesta is now the chief strategy officer for the Cleveland Browns. There's a great new article on what he's attempting behind the scenes just posted at The Ringer.

Well, petrolino, I had no idea you liked NFL football. ![](https://s26.postimg.cc/s8tffwvq1/cheers.gif)
There aren't many football movies I really love. I remember Brian's Song (1971) was pretty sad. On Any Given Sunday is a good choice. I like Remember the Titans although it's not historically accurate. I enjoy Jerry Maguire, but it's really about player management. One that's now becoming my favorite is Friday Night Lights (2004). That one really captures the obsessive nature of high-school football in the South.
I started off in life as a Green Bay Packers fan because of Lombardi.
Then for years it was the Washington Redskins because I lived there and before his death, Lombardi laid the foundation for a winning team. George Allen and his "Ramskins" took the baton and guided them to their first Super Bowl. In the 80s they reached their highest level with the genius of Joe Gibbs.
Nowadays I roll with the New Orleans Saints because they're the closest to me. I've now moved into a place where I no longer get upset if my favorite teams don't win. I enjoy and appreciate the art of good play, especially during the playoffs.

Little Giants...was always up there with the Mighty Ducks as my favorite kids sports movies. Rick Moranis and Ed O Neil are great and I had a crush on the Icebox as a kid. Lucas...seriously one of the most moving endings of a movie I’ve ever seen. It gets me every time. m.youtube.com/watch?v=0a-W4IKoaBEThe Waterboy...this was back before I found Sandler mostly annoying.

Concussion The Last Boyscout Can you tell I don't like football? Have you seen Any Given Sunday? If not, just imagine Oliver Stone's take on the politics of football with a huge cast and you will have an idea of what to expect.

north dallas 40 (1979) friday night lights (2004) easy living (1949) jim thorpe - all american (1951) invincible (2006) - Mark Wahlberg in one of the better formulaic football movies from the 2000s.
worst.. the express (2008) - with a deafening - and irritating - use of crunching sound FX to punctuate tackles.
the slaughter rule (2002) - godawful drama with Ryan Gosling and coach David Morse re. six a side variation of American football.

I remember 'Brian's Song'. For some reason I always associate it with 'Bang The Drum Slowly' (1973) in my mind, perhaps I saw them both around the same time when I was a kid.
The New Orleans Saints came close last season. With Drew Brees still firing, you have to think they have a chance going into this season. Hard to beat at home and the other three teams in the NFC South have their own issues.

If not, just imagine Oliver Stone's take on the politics of football with a huge cast and you will have an idea of what to expect. A couple times. Never really got into it, the iconic Willie Beaman song notwithstanding. I forgot about Brian's Song. Probably the straightest football movie I like. Another one we're all forgetting, or just not counting: Jerry Maguire. As for football movies, I think we had a similar discussion on baseball with Field of Dreams. I find most sport movies heavily predicated on the audience's enjoyment of their sport. Or maybe I'm just being closeminded when I watch a them.

I loved Little Giants as a kid and Remember the Titans as a teenager but nothing really stuck with me afterward. Never seen Draft Day or Rudy though have seen the others mentioned so far, decent to average for me. Actually preferred watching "The Replacements" more than anything, even though I acknowledge the film isn't that good heh.

'North Dallas Forty' (1979) is one of my top movies of ANY sport. Although I have little interest in American football, there are quite a lot of really good movies about it. Draft Day was a more recent one I enjoyed. I don't think All The Right Moves has been mentioned yet.
