Rewatched several movies with other people...got to see a persons reaction to the Sixth Sense for the first time, without spoilers...that was cool.
Also Train to Busan remains one of the better zombie films of all time. This is at least my 3rd rewatch and it's still golden.

Been taking a break from movies for the last while in order to check out some classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes. Can't get more quintessentially Halloweeny than that.

Watched Alone In The Dark starring Martin Landau, Jack Palance and Donald Pleasance. Decent flick but the best part:

Just watched Suspiria (1977) for the first time on Friday night. I had the 4K blu ray which looked absolutely gorgeous. I'd never seen that movie before and really had no idea what it was about and had somehow avoided all discussion of it during my 40.5 years.
It was....definitely something. Some really intense sequences with some truly audacious cinematography and technique, obviously the ADR of the entire movie was a bit distracting and the character exchanges were really awkward (and now I've read up on how it was meant to be for 12 year old girls but they recast young adults but kept the dialogue...really strange).
My takeaway is it's one of those movies that's meant to be experienced and absorbed, not necessarily dissected and understood, even though the story is simple enough to follow.

Saw the original ANOES in the theater last night. As of now I have to watch 20 movies in 10 days to complete the challenge.

Saw the first two Sleepaway Camp movies. For the longest time, I’ve been putting off the original and I’m finally glad I saw it. I mean yeah I knew what the twist already was, but everything leading up to that is pretty dang good. You really sympathize with poor Angela, and you’re glad these jerk characters get their comeuppance.
As for Sleepaway Camp 2, it’s not as good as the original since it’s not trying to be as sophisticated or serious with having a really goofy tone. Also Pamela Springsteen is far different from Felissa Rose (and I actually much prefer the latter’s performance) but I still had fun with the movie, and I appreciate them going another path. The body count and nudity are ramped up, and Springsteen is a blast. Don’t know what much else to add; just a tongue-in-cheek good time.

Apart from that, it wasn't too bad a film.

Re-watched The Forest. Still holds up as a good horror film. Read some interesting theories on the ending that make it more interesting imo. Now starting the Nightmare on Elm Street remake that I liked more than most people. Idk why, thought it was really well done. Want more.

Nightmare on Elm Street remake rewatch for like the 10th time. Still dont get the hate this film got other than Freddys make up looking too rubber. I still like everything else about it. I absolutely love the original, but I'm not one of these people that's opposed to remakes. I mentioned Suspiria above and I'm quite looking forward to watching the remake this weekend, so my hatred of the ANOES remake isn't anything related to a predominantly, and I believe erroneously, held belief that remakes are indicative of a lack of originality, and Hollywood is stale, and all that BS. This remake, however, egad. When I heard Jackie Earl Haley was cast, I was pretty excited and all things being equal, he's far and away the best thing in the movie. But that's where it ends. I saw this when it came out and hated it. I re-watched it a few weeks ago, feeling generous and really wanting to like it. Within the first 90 seconds, you see Freddy up close and fully lit. Obviously, we all know Freddy at this point but even with that, when you do that you remove all of the suspense of what your character can and can't do. They also did away with the shape-shifting aspect of his character, which I thought was one of the best parts of the original. Here, he just chases people and stabs them. You have a huge budget now, use it! One huge misfire I thought was how they introduced the idea that the kids perhaps made everything up and that Freddy was a victim of the parents misguided vengeance. It could have been an interesting sidestep for the remake and really add a new dimension but mere minutes after introducing the idea, they abandon it by unequivocally saying yup, he did it. Why introduce something new if you're going to immediately walk away from it? Anyway, in short, my personal opinion (which is of no consequence) is that I found it rather toothless, a sort of microcosm for the glossy, all-style-no-substance horror films of the late 00s/early 10s.

Funny without being silly, scary without being too self-serious, and surprisingly well-acted with an unusual amount of narrative heft. The father-daughter dynamic was really well executed.

Rewatching one of my favorites "Stay Alive". Its not super great but as a fan of horror video games this one is a big rewatchable for me. That's a guilty pleasure of mine, and I enjoy looking at Sophia Bush. A lot.
