Nightmare on Elm Street remake rewatch for like the 10th time. Still dont get the hate this film got other than Freddys make up looking too rubber. I still like everything else about it. As much as I didn't want a remake I really thought that there was an opportunity to utilize a lot of the added budget and ability with regards to the special effects and make something pretty cool with a new A Nightmare on Elm Street... and Jackie Earl Haley sort of seemed like the ideal casting choice if they had to replace Robert Englund. And then the movie came out and there really isn't anything I can say for it in the positive column, I don't think. There's so much room to let the inagknatikn run wild, and yet this is one of the most brainless and absolutely least imaginative films I've ever seen. It's script is absolutely horrendous. Extraordinarily shallow characterization and painfully awful dialogue. Set pieces that are so bland and dull within this wild and brilliant concept are probably the most unforgivably awful segments of the film, but the performances are weak and the shitty special effects have to shoulder a lot of the blame as well. And the extreme disappointment of the look and performance of Jackie Earl Haley was actually a surprise. He could have been great and yet nothing about his version of Freddy was interesting. I've said pretty much everything I have to say about how big a failure I thought that movie was over the years, so I'll spare any further rambling. But yeah, I think it's a pile of garbage and I don't see any appeal in it whatsoever.

Nightmare on Elm Street remake rewatch for like the 10th time. Still dont get the hate this film got other than Freddys make up looking too rubber. I still like everything else about it. One huge misfire I thought was how they introduced the idea that the kids perhaps made everything up and that Freddy was a victim of the parents misguided vengeance. It could have been an interesting sidestep for the remake and really add a new dimension but mere minutes after introducing the idea, they abandon it by unequivocally saying yup, he did it. Why introduce something new if you're going to immediately walk away from it? I really do wish they stuck with that idea of having the kids making it up. It would have brought a more interesting side to the Freddy Krueger character imo. In all the sequels of the original you basically rooted for Freddy anyways because he was a charismatic character. Had they done this for the remake it would have gone full blown into "yeah fuck those kids, go Freddy!" which would have been a good idea.

I always aim for 50 viewings, last year I only made 48 which really pissed me off. So I'm trying to beat my highest total ever this year which is 54. So far I'm at 39 > IMDB2.freeforums.net/post/3257662/threadBest FTV's so far are Dementia (1955), The Woman in Black (1989) and Triangle (2009) - The worst is Critters 4 (1992) Most improved Repeat Viewing is The Mist (2007) - The worst that shall never be tried again is Virus (1999)Pleasant surprise - Unfriended (2014)

Basically reached the required amount of movies in the challenge with 31 viewings ending with House 2, although I’m still gonna do more watches for the challenge. Might as well go further beyond.

I think most people probably meet the challenge half way through the month, it's not a hard requisite if your real life allows viewing time. Personally I just dedicate October to being the month where I purely just watch horror, a chance to catch up with recordings I have saved, straggler DVDs I have not seen, and any recs that caught my eye. Go further and beyond, set your own targets to try and beat each year

I'm lucky in that I work mad shifts, I work for 3 days or 4 nights on the spin, but then get a few days off, so I can binge on the days off. I imagine it's tough for anyone who works a regular 5 day week or does further education commitments.

I watched Cat People (1942) last night. It's about as good from the last time I watched it, and it was competently well-made. Most of the horror violence is implied through suspenseful music and noir-like shadows which was great because horror is sometimes most effective when it's left to the viewer's imagination. I did think it was clever how the film connects violence with a female being sexual aroused given the limits of the Production Code.

Love that film. Christopher Smith had a pretty impressive run with Creep, Severance, Triangle and Black Death. Melissa George was also outstanding

Love that film. Christopher Smith had a pretty impressive run with Creep, Severance, Triangle and Black Death. Melissa George was also outstanding Always found Creep to be a touch over rated, while I simply adore Severance with a passion that baffles most of my friends! "did you just look at my cock?" Black Death I also greatly enjoyed, but when I showed it to the lady I was dating at the time it was released on home formats - and her daughter, they were very much about it being anti-women, misogynistic even! Didn't see it myself, and I'm normally good with my feminine side... There was a good run for Melissa George, I was happy to see her name on a horror cast list, same with Radha Mitchell who was running at the same period. We had two sexy and gorgeous Australian scream queens, but George has sort of retired to TV work and Mitchell just does "also ran" movies these days. George is excellent in Triangle, multi stranded perf. I'm watching it again later before reviewing it (doubling up with The Amityville Horror remake for a Mells Bells double bill.

Severance is a fantastic film. Danny Dyer's finest moment Mitchell did churn out some gems. Always had a particular soft spot for RogueIf you haven't seen it track down George in A Lonely Place To Die - a British wilderness survival thriller that I personally would count in a horror challenge. It also stars he excellent Sean Harris (the Creep himself)

Just watched The Other (1972). This psychological horror film about twin boys, one good and the other evil, still remains as chilling as ever. Director Robert Mulligan uniquely creates a beautiful and scenic atmosphere, and yet it is horrifying at the same time. That is a rare accomplishment.
