I only watched about 10 seconds of that video and had to turn it off. JJ Abrams tried to "save" Luke Skywalker's character in Episode 9?? JJ Abrams was the one that put him into self exile in Episode 7!!! This is something I always pull my hair out talking to people about. No matter what age people are they try to watch Star Wars through the eyes of a 9 year old, and JJ Abrams writes his movies through the eyes of a 9 year old. What does it mean to put yourself into exile? It means you're closing yourself off to the world, and in Star Wars, that means closing yourself off to the force. If Luke was just the same old happy go lucky guy he was in New Hope, he would've sensed the First Order destroying the New Republic senate, he would've sensed Han's death, he would've felt all of this, and he would've returned to action before the credits rolled on Force Awakens. Why would Luke just be sitting on Ach-To waiting on someone to put together a puzzle and come pick him up? Makes no sense.

Mike Zeroh, a guy whose "inside info" is so bad that both DSW lovers and DSW haters think he's a joke. I haven't watched him in a while. I see he is putting "Star Wars Explained" in his video titles now, riding off the name of a far superior SW-related channel.

The logical conclusion for someone writing Episode 8's Luke was to have him go into exile to preserve the Jedi. Yoda and Obi-Wan did the same at the end of Episode 3 (with Yoda literally saying he was going into exile). Neither closed themselves off to the Force in the process. They were waiting for the right time to build their religion back up. The same can be said of Sidious/Maul who were lurking in the shadows prior to Episode 1 - with the Sith believed to be extinct for a millennia. Preserving their orders have been wonderfully established by the prior movies. It would have worked. Johnson couldn't be bothered to just stick to the canon though. He had to "subvert expectations".

Johnson couldn't be bothered to just stick to the canon though. He had to "subvert expectations". It was just a paint by numbers where Johnson purposely used the wrong paints in the numbers to appear "deep" and "subvert expectations". At the end of the day, it was no smarter or deeper than any of the other films. It just made less sense because Johnson wanted to be contrarian to give an impression of being artistic. It seems some people bought into that, but it didn't do much for me....

Did you notice in Episode 3 that a Sith had taken over the Galaxy and the Jedi were being systematically hunted and exterminated? Yoda and Obi-Wan, enemies of the state, ring any bells? Sidious and Maul, likewise, were lurking in the shadows of a Jedi-protected government. At the beginning of TFA, the Republic is the dominant power in the galaxy. This is of course until they get wiped out while Luke is where? Oh yeah, preserving the Jedi against a threat that...doesn't exist... but eventually does...thanks to his "preserving the Jedi"...oh. And what a remarkable preservation job he was doing! Whereas we can plainly see that Obi-Wan was guarding Luke, I suppose Luke was guarding the porgs! I guess JJ's m.o. of just blindly copying what the OT did is NOT workable and wonderful in this scenario.

Luke's entire academy was wiped out and the Jedi were down to 1. I would say that's a very dire situation with many threats that could eliminate the Jedi altogether. Luke going into the exile is a hell of a lot better than him just going to an island to sulk, to ignore his sister/friends/loved ones, and overall just give up when he was one of the most self-motivated, positive characters in the OT.

George Lucas has said he was going to have Luke off in self exile when the final trilogy started as well. movieweb.com/last-jedi-luke-skywalker-exile-george-lucas-idea/Luke was always somewhat Lucas. Had Lucas zipped out a movie every 3 yrs, we would have had a very different series. Lucas became something of a recluse, didn't he?

Sorry. George Lucas has said he was going to have Luke off in self exile when the final trilogy started as well. There's ideas, and then there's the execution of the ideas. Someone can have a great idea but fail to write/direct/produce/etc. the idea due to lack of knowledge, talent, or vision. For example, many people are unhappy with how Game of Thrones ended (not me but others are). The show runners for GOT were given a summary of the remaining books by the author, so they could finish the story in the show. They had the fate of every character, they knew how the story would end, and all the big remaining twists GRRM was planning. Yet even though they had the ideas, they still failed to deliver (to "execute") an ending to the show that the audience enjoyed. Why? Because there's more to telling a story than just having an idea - you have to be able to write good dialogue, understand the characters, etc. Ideas are important, but so is the ability to execute the ideas. If you lack the talent, it will show. Rian Johnson was incompetent.

He should never have been handed a mythology title. He thinks he's so witty. A deconstructionist. Mythology such as Star Wars needs its motifs & lore. One does not rip the Bible to shreds telling the 10 Commandments.

Luke tended to lack faith he could do stuff so I could see him not beong a good teacher. I agree with ising Luke's power as a reason ro keep him out of the story. It would have been like throwing Yoda at Vader in ANH. They could have dealt with it differently

Sounds weird now that we know they all get killed off or turn to the Dark Side.
Plus are they going to make Ben Solo a likeable adventurer like Anakin is on Clone Wars (2008) ?

The logical conclusion for someone writing Episode 8's Luke was to have him go into exile to preserve the Jedi. Yoda and Obi-Wan did the same at the end of Episode 3 (with Yoda literally saying he was going into exile). The situation wasn't quite the same though. Yoda and Obi-Wan needed to go into hiding. The Republic/Empire had declared against the Jedi and the Separatists already hated them and were collapsing anyway. It was hide or die. Luke chose to go into hiding at a time when the New Republic was more powerful than the First Order. It doesn't really make sense. It also seems unlikely that the Knights of Ren could have killed all of Luke's trainee Jedi.

Why would Luke just be sitting on Ach-To waiting on someone to put together a puzzle and come pick him up? Makes no sense. Well, to be completely fair we don't know that JJ put him into exile. All we knew at that point was that Luke was alone on an island. That doesn't necessarily mean exile.
That's why we were so excited to see TLJ because we wanted to find out. And that's why we were so disappointed that Rian Johnson decided to turn that into exile. Its RJ who made that decision. He could have been doing something else on that island.
My guess would have been that he was looking for something to help him defeat Snoke. Or looking for an old Jedi temple. Or starting a new Jedi temple on the island. Almost anything would have been better than what we got.
And it left poor JJ up a creek with only one movie to clean up all kinds of problems. That's why TROS feels poorly paced. That's my opinion anyway.

I don't believe this article is true. But if they did do a Luke Skywalker show I would watch it. Why? Because we've never seen Luke in his prime. In ROTJ he's just before his prime, and in TFA/TLJ he's past his prime.
So there's 30 years we didn't get to see where he does all kinds of things. And all we know is that he built a temple that Ben Solo destroyed, and that he trained Leia a little bit too.
And that's another thing! Leia! We never saw her in her prime either.
That missing thirty years is where all the good stuff happened! THATS what I want to see! And I mean in live action canon. Not a book or a comic. Something REAL.
