American electrical engineer Arnold Spielberg has left us at the age of 103, on August 25th. He was the father of director-producer Steven Spielberg. He was instrumental in contributions "to real-time data acquisition and recording that significantly contributed to the definition of modern feedback and control processes". For General Electric he designed, with his colleague Charles Propster, the GE-225 in 1959. He cited the first computer-controlled "point of sale" cash register as his greatest contribution. American animator, television editor, writer, and producer Joe Ruby has left us at the age of 87, on August 26th. He was the founder of television animation production company Ruby-Spears Productions, together with Ken Spears. For Hanna-Barbera, Ruby and Spears created Scooby-Doo, Dynomutt, Dog Wonder, and Jabberjaw, among other programs. At DePatie–Freleng, they created The Barkleys and The Houndcats. In the early 1970s, CBS president of children's programming Fred Silverman hired Ruby and Spears to supervise the production of CBS's Saturday morning cartoon lineup, a position they assumed at ABC when Silverman defected to that network. American author Max Evans has left us at the age of 94, on August 26th. Two of his novels were transformed into movies, The Rounders 1965 (novel published 1960) and Hi-Lo Country 1998 (novel published 1962). The Rounders was also transformed into a short-lived TV-series 1966 - 1967. He also authored "Sam Peckinpah, Master of Violence", a book about the making of the 1970 film The Ballad of Cable Hogue, and collaborated with Robert Nott on "Goin’ Crazy With Sam Peckinpah and All Our Friends". Scots-born Irish novelist, short story writer, playwright, and television screenwriter Eugene McCabe has left us at the age of 90, on August 27th. For television he wrote the screenplay, based on a Thomas Flanagan novel, for The Year of the French 1982. His 1992 novel Death and Nightingales was made into a TV mini-series in 2018. Austrian-British filmmaker and historian Frederick Baker has left us at the age of 55, on August 24th. He worked as a freelance director for both BBC and Austrian ORF. His documentary Shadowing the Third Man, a homage to the classic film by Carol Reed, was shown at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival. Actress Linda Hamilton's identical twin sister Leslie Hamilton Gearren has left us at the age of 63, on August 22nd. She didn't work in the entertainment industry, but appeared in Terminator 2: Judgment Day 1991, in the apocalyptic playground scene, as a double for Linda Hamilton. She also appeared as a mirror reflection in the scene where Sarah removes the CPU from the Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and in the scene where the T-1000 imitates Sarah. R.I.P. American actor and producer Chadwick Boseman has left us at the early age of 43, on August 28th (colon cancer). For many perhaps best known for his portrayals of real-life historical figures, such as Jackie Robinson in 42 2013, James Brown in Get on Up 2014, and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall 2017, and for his portrayal of the superhero "Black Panther" in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, most notably in Black Panther 2018, and as "Black Panther" in Captain America: Civil War 2016, Avengers: Infinity War 2018, and Avengers: Endgame 2019. American former stuntman and later actor and director Davis S. Cass Sr has left us at the age of 78, on August 28th. He began his film career as an extra. He alternated between acting and stunt work, starting with McLintock! 1963, on which he performed stunts. He went on to become a stunt coordinator and second unit director on Smokey and the Bandit Part 3, Knight Rider 2000, Walker, Texas Ranger and the Desperado TV movie franchise.
