I downloaded a C64 emulator and a couple of games (jumpman etc). But when I go to extract the zipped files, it shows a Utorrent symbol instead of the files. It didnt do this a few days ago. Did I accidentally click something that caused it to defer to utorrent?

What's the file extension of the files inside of the .7z/.zip/.rar file? ; or are you saying the actual zip/7z/rar file wants to open with uTorrent? ; if so, you must have screwed with the file associations and you can simply change it back as, from memory, if you got say 7-zip installed, open it as administrator and through the options menu there should be a way to affiliate it with .zip/.rar/.7z files etc. this gets the gist of it across. I would be cautious of where you download especially torrents as they could be loaded with virus etc. www.emulator-zone.com/ ; that site should be safe as far as the general emulators themselves. you have to get the ROM's(i.e. the actual games themselves) elsewhere.

Did I accidentally click something that caused it to defer to utorrent? Try resetting the association. Just right-click any zip file, then "Open with...> Choose another app." Check 7-zip and the box that says "Always use this app to open these files." Voila.

It doesn't give me the 7-Zip option! I can see the program installed, but it wont give me the 7-Zip as an app option.
Yet I can open the 7-Zip manager and extract inside it-however when I look at it in file explorer-it still shows the Utorrent icon. I really hate windows 10 for not letting me access programs easily like win 7. I go to Apps and Features and it only gives me the option to uninstall, not open.

You might have to click "more apps" and then "look for another app on this pc" if it isn't showing in the list. You could also set the association from the "Default Apps" setting in Windows. (I'm assuming you're on a PC.) Or, you could just open 7-zip, then go Tools > Options and set the associations from there.

Like I say if you start 7-zip with admin rights you can adjust the file associations through there.
because without doing that, it does not seem to stick.

I am trying the Tools > Options thing. Still not working.
I cant seem to access 7-Zip directly. It shows up in Program Files but no icon other that 7-Zip File manager and console and GUI.
It was working fine 2 days ago (though I simply right clicked and extracted the files, did not open 7-zip directly).

Sorry, I didnt see your posts. I downloaded the emulator from here:
The file will attempt to open with Utorrent if I click on it (after it has been "unzipped")
Otherwise it just appears as a Utorrent icon.

Prime etc. you must open 7-zip WITH ADMIN RIGHTS in order for file associations to work properly! so when you search for 7-zip on the start menu for example... right click it and select 'open as administrator' and then adjust the file associations and apply them. then you can close 7-zip and use it like usual and it should work.
Yeah, I suspect that's probably fine as it appears to offer a newer version than the site I linked to.
but the file you un-zipped, what's it's file extension?

And 7-zip appears when I right click over the file--it has all the options Open archives... Extract here.

That's not what I mean. like from your START MENU search for 7-zip and when it appears, right click it and there should be a way to open as administrator. (i.e your not opening ANY file at this point, just the basic 7-zip program interface itself)

The file when unzipped says D64 file
I am trying to open as administrator but the program (in program Files) only gives me 7-Zip console or Manager or GUI.
I can only access 7-zip File Manager when I search for "7-zip." So I am logged in as admin, so how do I change the thing in tools-options. I tried, but it didnt stick before. Do I select all the file types and then Administrator and All Users and click apply? Then ok?

I just tested it on Windows 10 Virtual Machine and what I said should work... On Windows 10 where it shows 'Type here to search', type in '7-zip' (without the ') and it should find '7-zip File Manager (app)' and RIGHT CLICK on this and select 'run as administrator'
then... Tools > Options > System. and using the "+" symbol you should be able to change file associations.

Admin Yeah, I used WinZIP in the old days but then WinRAR came along and used that for some odd years and have been on 7-zip for probably the longest at this point
p.s. I have been on Linux since Jan 2019. so I don't really use the same stuff and all but you get the gist

I know I do. He's talking like he's in Explorer, looking for the executable in Program Files. Since he's already there, he can just right-click the exe.

Been using 7-Zip for a long, long time. Still don't like it, though. Not sure why. It's a great app. It just doesn't feel right. lol. WinZip had an option to stay on top. 7-Zip does not. That's really annoying sometimes.
