At the time, the killing of Sonny was ground-breaking special fx sequence. No one had been rigged with blood squibs to such a degree--covering face, hands etc. Likely in 1972 the audience would have been so stunned by the killing to not think of the little details!

That must really restrict your ability to view older movies. I prefer watching at home personally. It's more convenient, I can watch late at night (as I like doing) and having a large DVD/Blu Ray collection - plus streaming - means an endless supply of options. Admittedly, the cinema can provide greater spectacle for certain kinds of movies. Glad you enjoyed The Godfather. It really is a masterpiece. Do try to check out the sequel at some stage. It's equally amazing. It was playing in a local cinema here a few years ago, but I couldn't sit through a movie that long on the big screen (or in a single sitting). well it does sure, i cannot just watch Any old movie whenever I want, but really how many movuws a week do U want to watch? I myself not thah many it turnes out. Plus they do show old movies on bug screen too, u mught just need to wait a bit. and to me thats part of the joy actually. Not as many as I would like. I often don't have the energy for a full movie or take too long to decide on what to watch. The cinema can certainly be more of an 'experience' - although a bad movie on the big screen is worse than a bad movie at home IMO. The last movie I saw in theatres was Black Panther exactly two years ago!

They were too civilized to be a believable mob family. Also a little too overpowered. Like they were the illuminati they could manipulate the media. Real life mobsters will scare you half to death. Are you now an expert on Sicilian behaviour?

NoraI see. but pausing it is sometimes not a choice if you got to go to the bathroom, as if you got to go, you got to go ; because one can only hold it for so long. but I guess if I was going to the theaters more often I would probably avoid drinking liquids a while before going to help minimize a bathroom break. but I rarely get there anymore as the last time I have been to the theaters was Oct 28th 2011 (i.e. In Time (2011)). either way, most movies are not thrilling enough to worry about it ruining the overall experience anyways. besides it's not like one paused it and waited days later (or longer) to finish it. p.s. some movies, especially ones that are nothing special (which is easily most movies), ill start watching one day and then finish the next. I try not to do that much but it does happen here and there especially if I am a bit tired and I can't help falling asleep etc.

I can understand your preference, but I think not having seen The Godfather until now was, to me, strange. Waiting for such a masterpiece of a film to come out in cinemas was denying yourself such a treat.

As some of you may know, I don’t watch movies at home. Movies are sacred and belong on a big screen and are intended to be consumed as a communal experience. I honor and enjoy that to this day. In practice what it means is that unless I saw a movie on tv when’s i was very young and didn’t have this self imposed rule yet, I won’t see it until it makes a comeback to the cinemas. So I only saw Star Wars 3 years ago for the first time, (all of them, I wouldn’t go see the new ones in fear of spoilers of the original ones) I only saw Scarface 2 years ago and Goodfellas last year. Today finally Godfather. I couldnt help but giggle during the movie because all of a sudden so many Other movies and shows made so much sense. Oh so many references from the Simpsons! Or Community. Or Seinfeld oh god the Seinfeld homage! So hilarious now to finally get it all. Now to the movie - I enjoyed it very very much. And I must say that I found Al Pacinos performance simply amazing, I so enjoyed him being more civil / less animated, than how I know him from other movies. But I really liked everything about it except it was somewhat difficult for me to understand all the relationships and motivations right away but I guess that will be better with a second viewing. Like, was Luca making it seem like he Was going to accept (and they recognized that as a traitor sign) or that he was Not going to accept (and that’s why he was killed?). 9/10 from me easy anyway. Looking forward to seeing the sequel sometime when it comes to the theaters again. That must really restrict your ability to view older movies. I prefer watching at home personally. Am I the only one that sees your pic as a mouth with yellow teeth? I didn't realise it was a Batman logo until I did some squinting at it.

Waiting for such a masterpiece of a film to come out in cinemas was denying yourself such a treat. and there is Many more but whats the problem with postponing pleasure? provided i dont die before i see it. its not like the movie (any movie) would have made me chane my choices in life and I would be sitting here thinking “on no, had I seen the Godfather sooner, I could have been ... the new capo di tutti i capi now”

I'm rather curious why they thought killing Sonny at the toll booth was a good idea. First off toll booths tend to get a lot of traffic, so their could have been witnesses. 2nd off, unless they killed the toll booth operater, aren't the cops gonna ask whoever was supposed to be working that shift some questions? "Oh well I went to get some coffee real quick while the shooting happened." Was Chief Wiggum investigating it? Everybody is corrupt. Solozo has a chief of police in his pocket and Corleone had the judges which what sparked all of this. I can only imagine the amount of planning would take place to kill a future don even a stupid one. Bottom line is they were trying to wipe out a Mafia family and it was worth the risk. We don’t even know if the toll booth operator was a mafia guy or hired hand or just bribed. Needless to say a massive investigation was unlikely to happen.

I was wondering about tha too, would love to know more about that scene and why and how thet picked That place... They picked the place since that was the closest route to his sister. But the thing that seems pretty clear to me is that the Mafia ran things which was not even remotely far from the truth.

I haven’t seen The a Wild Bunch - 69’, but didn’t they do all of that first? Bonnie and Clyde did the machine gun death even earlier, but I don't think the shooting effects were placed on the head. With James Caan they applied some to face, cheeks etc.

1/10. One of the worst movies ever made. A muddled mess that is impossible to stay awake through in one sitting, that just glorifies and deifies mobsters with no motivation. And most mobsters do have no motivation, but they're dull and unmotivated, just like these critters. It's so obviously meant to keep the masses in their place as cannon fodder, pure propaganda written by a mobster to further mob mentality.
I have no inkling why anyone enjoys this puke movie. I guess some people like to be sheep.

I think part of the problem is the avatars are so small that it's easy for those of us who are visually challenged to view them incorrectly. It has happened to me with other avatars.
