IMDb v2.1 Top 50 (Last update: November 11, 2020)

I added links to almost all the individual pages to vote for movies in the database here (docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B6qntXBvkIVFGV59pdsc2FuuRspJWzWA0wrQD-OK3R8/pubhtml#). I heard from some people that they couldn't find movies they were looking for with the search option, like The Thing. If you can't find a movie now, you can just use the link in the database.

I have exams the coming weeks so I won't be able to change the main table on the first page, but I have updated the spreadsheet of the top 250 and all the individual ratings:

A few noteworthy changes (as of October 17, 2017):
*We have a new #1, or rather an old #1. Empire Strikes Back has retaken the #1 spot with an average of 9.2. The Wizard of Oz, the previous #1, is now on the second position.
*Psycho dropped from #2 to #13 with a current average of 8.9.
*Blade Runner 2049 enters the top 50 at #26 with an average of 8.7, making it the highest-rated movie of the decade and the 6th highest-rated sequel.
*Pan's Labyrinth re-enters the top 50 at #27.
*Singin' in the Rain dropped out of the top 50 and is now at #85, making it the biggest drop on the list.

Today I've been updating the top 50 and I'm now at the 16th of November, 2016 (I did October & a part of November today). I don't know when It'll be completely up-to-date, but then I'll also update the main post on the first page of this thread. I did make this fun version of Rotten Tomatoes, but with our own IMDb v2.0 ratings (counting 6 and higher as fresh and using posts in the thread to come up with a consensus). For top critics I used the voters who also posted in the thread.

I have updated the top 50 again after one month. A few interesting updates:
*We passed the 10,000 votes this month.
*The Godfather has retaken the #1 position.
*Aguirre: The Wrath of God & Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) both keep their positions in the top 10.
*The Insider jumps from #25 to #20.
*There Will Be Blood is the highest newcomer at #21.
*Barry Lyndon goes all the way from #44 to #24.
*Pinocchio rises to #35, becoming the highest-rated animated movie. The second highest rated animated movie is Spirited Away at #46.
*Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri enters the top 50 at #36 becoming the highest entry of a new release since Blade Runner 2049 (which btw left the top 50 this month, it's now at #75).
*Someone made a thread for The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, so of course it enters the top 50. It's now at #39.
*The other 2 new entries are No Country for Old Men (#45) and Taxi Driver (#49).
 *Many movies left the top 250 this month, including Dunkirk, It, Children of Men, The Pianist, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy, John Wick, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Scarface and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
*There is only one movie with still 0 votes: Fortress (link: imdb2.freeforums.net/thread/60673/rate-fortress-1985). So could anyone who has seen it vote for it? It's a bit sad to see a poll with 0 votes.

I'm going through the spreadsheet file and I looked at the history of the IMDb v2.0 so far. Here are all the #1's:

The 27th of March, 2017 - The 26th of April, 2017
The Godfather (Highest average: 9.6 at 04/04/17 with 33 votes)
*In April The Godfather was almost passed by The Sound of Music, but the movie never came further than #2 with a 9.3 average rating.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Highest average: 9.3)

Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (Highest average: 9.3)
*This is the shortest amount of time any movie ever spent at #1 on the IMDb v2.0 list.

The Godfather (Highest average: 9.2)
*This is the second time The Godfather became #1, even though its average had fallen from 9.6 to 9.2.

The 30th of April, 2017 - The 6th of June, 2017
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (Highest average: 9.6)
*Reigning for more than a month, this is the longest time any movie was at #1 up until this point.

The 6th of June, 2017 - The 3rd of August, 2017
The Godfather (Highest average: 9.3)

The 3rd of August, 2017 - The 16th of October, 2017
The Wizard of Oz (Highest average: 9.2)
*Psycho came incredibly close to #1. The Wizard of Oz had an average of 9.189 and Psycho had an average of 9.185.

The 16th of October, 2017 - The 3rd of February, 2018
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (Highest average: 9.2)
*The longest time any movie was at #1.
*On the 19th of January both The Empire Strikes Back & The Wizard of Oz had the exact same amount of votes and the exact same average of 9.206.
The number of 10/10 votes was higher for Empire (21 vs. 18) so that's why Empire remained at #1. This is the only time so far such a tie ever occured.

The 3rd of February, 2018 - Now
The Godfather (Highest average: 9.2)
*After switching many times The Godfather is the current #1 and the first #1 to have 50 votes.

I updated the top 50 today.  A few interesting updates:
*The Godfather has stayed at #1 and its average even went up to 9.3.
*Empire falls to #10, which creates a very unique top 5: all the movies in the top 5 movies are made by only 2 directors.
Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather 1 & 2) and Steven Spielberg (Raiders, Schindler's List & Jaws).
*Kingdom of Heaven (Director's Cut) still remains in the top 10 and is the only director's cut in the top 50.
*Sunset Boulevard is the highest new entry at #7.
*Spirited Away rebounds back up and is now at #20.
*King Kong also enters the top 50 at #24.
*This wasn't the best month for Star Wars movies. Star Wars (1977) also drops a lot, all the way to #43. Meanwhile, newcomer
Forbidden Planet enters the top 50 at #27.
*Groundhog Day reaches a new peak at #35.
*Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri remains in the top 50. The 2nd most recent movie in the top 50 is The Dark Knight from 2008.
*Pan's Labyrinth re-enters the top 50 at #45, while The Shape of Water leaves the top 250.
*It has taken multiple months, but after a slow but steady climb, Casablanca has entered the top 50 at #47.
*The Princess Bride enters the top 50 for a second time and is now at #50.
*Many movies left the top 250 this month, including Gone With the Wind, Inception, Requiem for a Dream, Hacksaw Ridge, A Clockwork Orange, Shaun of the Dead, Interstellar, Looper, The Shape of Water, Mars Attacks! and Mad Max.
*No Country for Old Men, Léon, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, The Good, The Bad and the Ugly, Mullholland Drive, Zodiac left the top 50.
*A few new entries in the top 250 are Das Boot (#59), The Thin Red Line (#63),For a Few Dollars More (#79), Rosemary's Baby (#86), Princess Mononoke (#99), The French Connection (#171), Eraserhead (#181), Hellraiser (#197), The Birds (#239) and The Silence of the Lambs (#248).
