No argument with your last line. It may feel arduous to watch Bio-Dome, and may be challenging to sit through, but it's not a challenging movie and doesn't require work. The rest I can't help you with. I'll never understand how people are bothered by subtitles. Though I suppose if you're in the general practice of not really paying attention to the things you watch then it wouldn't really work. To each their own, but to me dubbing is always more distracting than subtitles. You probably get used to both after a while, but dubbing looks silly and makes me wonder what the actor's real voice sounds like, and if the inflection in their voice was a better interpretation of that line. I agree - dubbing removes half of an actor's performance. That being said; it's just part of the flavor of an old martial arts or godzilla movie or something like that. Those Italian movies where everyone's dubbed is a whole other deal.

Black Klansman - haven't finished it yet but I've enjoyed it so far. Recommended. Spike Lee is kind of a dick, but I enjoyed that movie too. I was surprised that it was as much of a mainstream bit of entertainment considering the subject matter. It's kind of an old school buddy cop movie, and it does it well. Denzel's kid is a charismatic guy.

It could have been about a black labrador that plays for a sports team called the Klansmen 🤷♀️ There's a team called the Klansmen? I dunno, those wacky southern states might have. Or it could have been like Bloody Mary 🤷♀️ Say Black Klansman three times in a mirror at 3 in the morning whilst standing on one leg during a thunderstorm. That kind of thing.

My four cents on The Host and on the subject of subtitled movies:
I enjoyed The Host when it came out. If I remember correctly, it was one of the first Korean movies to be shown in commercial theatres here (as opposed to film festivals or repertory theatres). The director is Bong Joon-Ho, who also made Memories of Murder, Mother, Snowpiercer and of course the Oscar-winning Parasite.
As for subtitled movies: twenty years ago I would have jumped in rage at anyone who would say "I don't like subtitles". I would have called them all sorts of names and not too subtly insulted their intelligence. Today I've mellowed out. If you don't want to watch movies with subtitles, that is your prerogative (and your problem). Personally, I can't imagine limiting myself to movies and TV shows from a very small number of countries, but to each their own.

I honestly just find dubbed movies inordinately more distracting than anything with subtitles. I should re-visit The Host, I haven't seen it since it came out. Parasite, man that movie is special. Just a great film from start to finish. Snowpiercer I really enjoyed when I first saw it, but it lost a bit of luster upon rewatch. It's solid, and delightfully offbeat, it just loses a bit of steam in the third act for me. I haven't seen Memories of Murder, nor have I seen Okja, which I understand to be rather good, but not his best.

It's worth a watch for the oddity of it all, but overall I don't consider it that great a flick. Honestly it's the same reason I've avoided Parasite, it looks like another clumsy commentary on class inequality by the same guy. The academy (and people whose opinion I actually respect, like you) say it's amazing, but I don't know that I'll ever get around to it. I'm sure I'm wrong but I can live with it.

Parasite is equal parts just as in-your-face as Snowpiercer but also a lot more subtle at the same time, which I realize makes no sense as I type this out. It's also brilliantly acted and the overall tone is much lighter (for the most part). Honestly, it's so wonderfully directed that you can enjoy it even while turning your mind off to the class themes that are prevalent throughout.

Parasite and Snowpiercer may touch on similar themes, but they are wildly different films. There are shared attitudes, to a degree, but Snowpiercer is meant to be an odd and in-your-face genre film. It's absurdist on purpose and it never pretends to be subtle. I found it entertaining and audacious but I don't think it's a masterwork or anything. Parasite, on the other hand, is just terrific in everything it attempts to do. It's not nearly as heavy handed as you think, and it approaches these ideas very differently and it doesn't judge it's characters in the way you'd expect based on his previous work. Really good stuff.
