klawrencio79 masterofallgoons I want in on the Ends conversation. No spoilers, but I had a blast with this movie. Can't wait to discuss it with you guys, I have a lot to say and I can't wait to hear your respective takes. In the meantime, let me talk about two of the greatest trailers I've ever seen! (…) Next up, Violent Night. How the hell did it take until 2022 for this movie to exist?! This is what Fatman (2020) should've been. Can I get tickets to this right now?! The puns! "Season's beatings." "They're on my naughty list." This folks, is why I still go to the movies. What a night. Looking forward to Violent Night as well. The director is the guy who made the two “Dead Snow” movies, which are the best Nazi Zombies black comedies ever.

Saw these trailers back to back right before the movie started, and I have to admit, they probably influenced my enjoyment of Halloween Ends. It was worth the price of admission just to see these two trailers on the big screen. Where do I begin? M3gan is a combination of 10 different horror movies you've already seen, but holy shit does this look like fun. I almost fell out of my seat when the murderbot started dancing. I don't even need to see the movie, the trailer is like the greatest SNL spoof of a horror movie sketch you're ever going to see. "You should probably run." Next up, Violent Night. How the hell did it take until 2022 for this movie to exist?! This is what Fatman (2020) should've been. Can I get tickets to this right now?! The puns! "Season's beatings." "They're on my naughty list." This folks, is why I still go to the movies. What a night. The M3gan trailer did have me cracking up. It hits every bad cliché you'd expect, and then the robot girl starts dancing while the music tries to convince you that this is scary. It is truly hilarious. I suspect it's not supposed to be, but it's way more entertaining than it seemed like it would be at first.. and probably more than the movie itself will be. One of the most hilariously stupid things I've ever seen. And Violent Night... I just can't believe that title hadn't been used before. Do you know how many Santa slashers I've seen? A LOT! How many other Christmas horror movies? So many! Yet none have been titled Violent Night? How can this be? Looks like a fucking blast though, and David Harbour seems like he's having the time of his life. It was such a good trailer that I just kind of fear that the same thing stretched out to 90s mins couldn't be as fun as it looks. We'll see though. Halloween Ends... jeez... literally just finished it right now. I might need to collect my thoughts for a minute. I'm actually kinda glad I got it mildly spoiled. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and I was even prepped to be in disbelief. It made some choices, that's for sure.

I couldn't believe what I was seeing, and I was even prepped to be in disbelief. It made some choices, that's for sure. Exactly, on all fronts! The Megan stuff is pure comedy, and it can't possibly have been intended that way. She's a humanoid android, we were designed to run on two legs-- so why is she getting on all fours? I think it's supposed to be creepier, but instead it's 1000% more hilarious than if she just ran after the kid. Doubt I'll see it in theaters, but I'll definitely check it out at some point for the comedy alone. And yeah, I hate to say it, but there's no way Violent Night can be as good a movie as it is a trailer. Really tough to sustain that level of action romp over an entire film. It feels like an 80s actioner, which is the highest of compliments. I have a busy day with Little Kahuka's soccer game, fall cleanup, etc, so I won't be able to chime in on Ends until later, anyway. I think it's going to be one of those movies where we express similar opinions on many of the elements involved, but ultimately come to different conclusions. I'll say this, I enjoyed it, but by no means am I saying it was a good movie.

Going to switch it up a bit from Horror and watch HBO's Gotti with Armand Assante
Awesome flick - highly underrated. One of the best mob movies out there
Love the 'rat' speech at the end -

klawrencio79 masterofallgoonsHalloween Ends (Full spoilers, everyone.)
So this movie was lousy, but not nearly as terrible as everyone made it out to be. I didn't know any specific spoilers, but I'd heard it was really going to piss off longtime fans of the franchise. As a casual fan of the franchise, I thought it hit rock bottom with Halloween Kills. What could they possibly do to make it worse than that shit show? Aliens? Robots? Michael is actually Laurie's alter ego and they're all in purgatory? I just knew whatever they did couldn't be as terrible as Kills. That movie ruined its predecessor completely, which to me would've been the best sendoff this series could've had.
Sure the story in Ends makes no sense; sure the characters make baffling decisions and have completely nonsensical reactions to any given situation, but isn't that par for the course in horror? Did people hate Michael taking on a disciple for no particular reason? It's idiotic, but no more than Laurie continuing to celebrate Halloween every year, despite the fact that a madman stalked her all her life, killed her daughter on Halloween a few years ago, and is still out there! In fact I'd say Michael training Mini-Mike actually makes sense, insomuch as Michael never needed a motivation to do anything. Carpenter's whole point with Halloween was that Michael was just evil incarnate, no motivation or explanation required. So if he throws a curve, who are we to question it? I'm not defending it so much as saying to me, it felt like the least of the story's problems.
Anyone else get a kick out of the high school marching band members as bullies?! Or the fact that they were bullying a guy in his twenties? How about the nurse having a hot date with the doctor and repeatedly calling him 'Dr. Mathis' out of the office? Does your boss that you're fucking have a first name, or did the writers completely give up by then? I think I know the answer.
Why does Allyson like Corey? I get that they're both damaged, but she's relatively well-adjusted (or at least keeping her shit together for the most part) while this guy is a total flake, a dipshit, and really kind of a dick even before the accident. He wigs out on her several times and she still sides with him over her grandmother, who's she's essentially survived a war with. If anything Allyson should have MAJOR trust issues; instead she's just along for the ride with the guy who keeps disapearing, showing up the next morning covered in cuts and bruises and telling her, "I killed someone." A serial killer/force of nature killed her mother, and she's hooking up with this guy?
This leads to my next point. The writing and characterization was so terrible in this movie that there were zero stakes for me. I was invested in these folks after Halloween (2018), but that all went out the window with Halloween Kills. The people in this movie were so obnoxious, ignorant, rude, or straight up hostile for no apparent reason that I wanted them to die. The only guy who didn't deserve it was Ronald, and he was killed by accident by the kid who arguably had the most enjoyable death in the movie. Even Allyson's stupidity had me not caring whether she got her head cut off by the end.
The movie telegraphed everything. You don't have to be a genius (even though clearly, we're all geniuses here) to see the junkyard crusher playing a role later in the film when they linger on it early on. When Michael does...whatever he does to Corey (and I'll come back to this), you just know that's coming back in the climactic battle with Laurie.
As bad as it was, there are a few bright spots. I like the scene where Laurie confronts Corey at the house, leaning back in the chair, talking shit. Then he tries to give it back, but she pulls a Michael herself and just ghosts him. I actually didn't mind the evil transfer or whatever Michael did with Corey and later to Laurie, simply because it wasn't explained. Did he transfer his evil, or unlock their own? It also begs the question, is that what happened to him? I guess that would be an origin Carpenter never wanted, so I could see fans not liking that; but again, since it's open to interpretation, it's just a layer of nuance to a story desperately in need of any thought whatsoever.
Laurie's fake suicide was a fun twist, though I also think it would've been great if she was really going to do it and he jumped into the room at the last second. She's been the hunted, running for her life; she's been hunter, fighting for her family. What happens when a killer happens upon a crazy MF with literally nothing to lose? There's a fight I want to see. As the internet might say, Cowabunga it is! And either way I appreciate the open-ended nature of it with Laurie at the end. Is she destined to become a killer, or is she, with her 40 years of PTSD and head to head battles with this monster, uniquely adapted to live with and control this evil once and for all? We don't know, and that's the way it should be.
Also, it should be noted the movie gets bonus points for featuring scenes from two of my all-time favorites, The Thing and Hard Target. For a town filled with assholes, they have good taste in movies.
So there you have it. It's a bad movie, but to me, somehow an improvement over the last one. Ultimately, I think I liked it only because I didn't hate it as much as I expected to. And I didn't hate it only because I hated the previous film with a passion. In a way I suppose I was like Laurie, having already phoned in the suicide to the police. I was prepared to let the chips fall where they may.

Was it last week that we discussed a new list of the best TV shows ever? Anyway, "Fleabag", which I had heard about but never watched, was very high on that list - #6 if I recall correctly. Not all that many episodes and short ones ( < 30 min) at that, so I figured I'd check it out.
The very first episode of the very first season starts with a scene where the humour revolves around anal sex. Call me a prude if you must, but really? That is your opening play? Isn't that kind of lower denominator-ish and juvenile?
I suppose I will watch a few more episodes before I decide whether or not to watch the entire series, but it's NOT off to a good start!
Third episode starts with the brilliant and hilarious line “I did a fart the other day that was exactly like mom’s”. I can see why this show ranked in the top 10 TV shows of all time!

Can't believe Halloween is in 2 weeks - October flyin' by. Halloween Horror via - 'MOVIES!' A Bucket of Blood (1959) - 'A busboy is embraced by the beatnik art community when he develops an impressive but morbid method of sculpting' Interesting. Interesting indeed. Here's my guess folks - the sculptures are actually dismembered parts of some of the customers/patrons that inhabit the restaurant he works at. 68% Popcorn Score Let's Give It A Whirl!

My wife though LOVES Christmas movies but of the Hallmark variety, so it’ll take some wheeling and dealing to get her to see it.

Best Horror Movies of the Last 15 Years www.denofgeek.com/movies/best-horror-movies-of-the-last-15-years/I knew The Witch would rank high - deservedly so. Personally, I prefer Midsommar to Hereditary. Loved It Follows and Let the Right One In. I wasn't impressed by The Conjuring, but thought The Invisible Man was a lot better than I was expecting it to be. Get Out was really good, not sure about #1 though. A Quiet Place and Black Swan - both fine. Haven't seen any of the others.

I was little disappointed by Saint Maude. Not that it's not good, it's just not as intense and powerful as I'd hoped. Great tone and performance, but it's not of the caliber of some of the recent greats.. even from its studio.

A lot of people thought it was too slow.
I'm really big into spirituality. Especially horror movies that center on religion/spirituality - people who lose their faith.
Thought it was haunting - ending deeply disturbed me.
Talking about becoming invested in characters in previous movies - I felt for the main character. Couldn't find happiness in career, sex, drugs, alcohol and then turned to God looking for help to find fulfillment. Pretty much the question on a lot of people's minds. Are you praying to nobody? Does God exist? Or do you maintain your faith there's a bigger picture involved?
Ending - felt like I got punched in the gut.

I liked all of the same things about it, and the performance from the lead actress... I just didn't feel like it stuck the landing, and it was slightly dull. It's exactly the kind of movie that I'd be drawn to, but it just didn't really come together for me. Maybe I just expected so much because of how good it looked and the reviews I saw. Again, not bad by any stretch, but just not special in the way I'd hoped.

I watched a new action movie with Liam Neeson last night – “Memory”, on Amazon. He plays a contract killer who is showing signs of early rapid onset Alzheimer’s. He has one last job to do, but halfway through it he finds out that it involves crossing a line he is not willing to cross. Of course his employer doesn’t take kindly to it, and the body count shoots up. He mostly uses guns in this one instead of physically fighting four or five enemies at a time with nothing but his fists, which is a good thing considering that he is 70 years old.
It’s a decent movie that held my attention but it’s not very memorable. Come to think of it, with the exception of the first “Taken” movie, has any of his action movies been particularly memorable?
It seems that it is a remake of a Belgian movie from 2002 called “The Memory of a Killer”, which I had never heard about.
