Watched some ropey Italian comedy called The Thirteen Chairs (aka 12 + 1). Based on a Sherlock Holmes story. Pretty shit to be honest. Only reason I watched it was because Sharon Tate was in it; it was her last film. What an absolute knockout she was. Such a shame she would soon be murdered. Orson Welles has a small role. That didn't sound right to me, so I checked. I think it's based on a Russian book, not a Sherlock Holmes story. I knew that there was a Cuban movie and also one by Mel Brooks (I have it as part of a Mel Brooks collection), but I haven't seen either of them. I didn't know about the one with Sharon Tate.
Ah, my mistake. I was getting mixed up with a Holmes story involving busts of Napoleon. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventure_of_the_Six_Napoleons

There is a film by the same name from one of my favourite Soviet directors - Leonid Gaidai. I have seen quite a few movies by Gaidai and liked them all. I think I will soon be watching Twelve Chairs (1971). Rated 8.3 on IMDB. I know Indians, Russians, Turks and Americans highly overrate their movies but I have seen Gaidai's movies and I rate him excellent. His movie Kidnapping, Caucasian Style is not just fun but adds to your knowledge of Northern Caucasus region and how Russians looked at people from that region. Ivan Vasilievich: Back to the Future (1973) is a laugh riot.

Springwatch starts tonight. I think each presenter is doing it from their own home. Hope I'm wrong about Michaela Strachan not being in it this year. She and Cwis Packham have great chemistry. No Michaela. Not sacked though, she’s just stuck in South Africa because of lockdown rules.

Bob, le Flambeur. JP Melville caper film. Excellent. Loved the location shots. Nice bit of jailbait in it too,

Our Carl's hours are all askew in lockdown. He used to sleep in and not leave his wanking chariot until midday every day regular as clockwork. He's on random hours now.

I wake up around 3.30 am. This morning 2.25 am. and I didn't get back to sleep. I've just been out shopping and I was staggering around like a half-pissed Zombie

I watched "Let Me In" (2010), the American remake of the great Swedish vampire movie "Let the Right One In" (2008). I watched the original at a film festival and loved it; when the remake came out I avoided it almost as a matter of principle - but I always had it in the back of my mind that one day I should watch it. Well, that day was yesterday.
I thought it was a pretty decent movie, better than your average remake. I know there are a few fans of horror movies here; have you seen it? If so, what did you think of it? Have you also seen the original? Did you even know it was a remake?

I've seen both and I saw the remake knowing it was a remake going into it. The original is terrific. The remake is OK, I found it a bit tepid.

NatGeo Wild - World's Deadliest Crocs
'Exploring how big crocodiles can get, and what gives them the taste for human flesh'.
Just learned male crocs can grow up to 20 feet. 20 feet! Would love to see one get in a fight with a shark. There's a clip on Youtube with a Bull Shark vs. a Croc/Gator (whatever) but it's a rather small shark.....

With almost any genre movie, I avoid/despise 90% of them. With horror it's more like 95%, but I watched/loved Let the Right One In. So, as a matter of principle, I've avoided Let Me In. Still to this day.

Anyone watching Springwatch on the BBC?
Chris Packham's step-daughter was on presenting beside him today. What a little cutie. Very professional too. She's already better than Gillian! Sack Gillian and give Megan a job f/t!

I watched "Extraction" last night, the recent Netflix action movie starring Thor. As far as action movies go, it's pretty decent. The story is fairly simple but that's not necessarily a bad thing; with action movies I often find that overly complicated stories can't stand close scrutiny. It is my firm belief that "simple" is generally preferable to "bad".
Anyway, the action is very good, especially one unbelievable 11-minute long take. I am not a BIG fan of action movies but there are worse ways to spend two hours of your life.

30 for 30 - The U: Part 2
'The University of Miami's football program tries to recover from the devastation left by NCAA sanctions and scandals'
A shame - they never truly recovered - I had hopes even as recent as those 'Chain Gang' years a couple of years ago.

That one sequence is incredible, although it's definitely cobbled together and edited to look like a single take. It's still amazing spectacle. I'm also not a huge action movie fan but sometimes, a little mindless fun is what the doctor ordered.
