Which do you think will live up to the hype, which do you think will flop, and what range $$$ do you think they might make? Here's a list and my guesses. And I threw in a few that might not necessarily be on our radar, but can potentially be big hits.
EDIT: 6-13-17 NOW THAT WE'RE IN FULL SWING LETS COMPARE NOTES... SECOND EDIT: 8/15/14 END OF SUMMER
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 Biggest hit of the summer, 500 mill (TOPPED OFF AT AROUND 380) King Arthur Legend of the Sword HUGE FLOP Alien Covenant FLOP Pirates of the Caribbean 5 (170 IN THE U.S. AND DOING WELL ABROAD, NOT A HIT BUT NOT A FLOP) Baywatch FLOP Wonder Woman Moderate hit, 300 mil (MADE 400. WOW) The Mummy FLOP Captain Underpants
Cars 3 FLOP Transformers 5 FLOP Despicable Me 3 Biggest animated hit of the summer 300-400 mill? 250 MILL Spider Man Homecoming I SAID 250 Mill BUT ITS MORE LIKE 300 MILL Planet of the Apes 3 Moderate hit 100-200 mill? MORE THE FORMER THAN THE LATTER Valerian I think this is going to be the biggest flop YEP HUGE FLOP Dunkirk mild success, 100 mill ABOUT 150 Atomic Blonde minor sleeper hit under 100 mill FLOP Dark Tower summer exhaustion 100 mill FLOP
SO UH, LOTS OF FLOPS THIS SUMMER... Waiting on Blade Runner 2049, Thor Ragnarok, Justice League, and Star Wars Last Jedi.

Dunkirk mild success? It's gonna be the biggest hit of the summer. And damn, that film is supposed to be hella expensive.

Alien Covenant will be a success. Prometheus was R and that didn't stop it from being super successful at the BO.

I can pretty much agree with all of that except Baywatch and Dunkirk. I think Baywatch will flop and Dunkirk will make more like $300-400 million and shock everyone.

I think Valerian is gonna be DOA. I believe sleepers could be:
It Comes At Night (very intriguing trailer, looks to be solid counterprogramming as well with few good looking horror movies on the summer schedule come June 9th, just needs good reviews)
All Eyez on Me (Tupac/rap fans will eat this up)
The House (well-known comedy stalwarts in Poehler and Farrell).

I'm still iffy about Valarian, but I'm trying to be optimistic as I love the source material + Luc Bessons directed movies. If nothing else it should be a huge hit in foreign markets.

Good question! I meant domestic U.S.
World wide movies like Valerian might have better luck; in Europe where the property is better known, and in in Asia where they eat that kind of movie up.

I think the ceiling on this would be comparable to Brad Pitt's Fury. I don't think it will get as high as Fury though. Fury: Domestic 85.8M Foreign 126M WW 211.8M I haven't found exact budget numbers for Dunkirk, but I've read he was getting 20M for directing and spent $5 million of the film’s budget alone to buy a vintage German Luftwaffe fighter to crash it for a shot in the film. Hey, I'm looking forward to it, but at best, it'll be a mild success.

Valerian won't do well domestically, but i believe it will rock when it comes to foreign gross. King Arthur is dead, will not pass 300 million WW, Wonder Woman will do at least 450 million worldwide(and it can go as high as Suicide Squad if people like it), this is a certain hit for WB.

I certainly hope so. I think Wonder Woman has the potential to be huge, but I wonder if the DC hate patrol will be out in full force the way it was for MOS, BVS and SS.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 Biggest hit of the summer, 500 mill King Arthur Legend of the Sword flop Alien Covenant moderate hit, 200 mill, Rated R will hurt its chances at huge success Pirates of the Caribbean 5 Who knows? This SHOULD flop, but the last one did well, so... Baywatch The Rock is hot and Efron is hot in comedy, so...? Wonder Woman Moderate hit, 300 mil The Mummy Not a flop, but not huge hit either, 150 mill Captain Underpants Potential sleeper hit, this is actually HUGE with kids, so... Cars 3 Pixar sequel and still huge with kids, so... Transformers 5 Again who knows? This SHOULD flop, but the last one did well, so... Despicable Me 3 Biggest animated hit of the summer 300-400 mill? Spider Man Homecoming re-boot fatigue may bring this down from the success it could be, 250 Mill? Planet of the Apes 3 Moderate hit 100-200 mill? Valerian OUCH, I want this to succeed, but I think this is going to be the biggest flop Dunkirk mild success, 100 mill Atomic Blonde minor sleeper hit under 100 mill Dark Tower summer exhaustion 100 mill
What do you think? If The Dark Tower teases are any indication, it will do much better than 100M.

Well the hate patrol didn't stop those movies of being sucessful, with all the negative BvS patrol(which at a certain extent was deserved) Suicide Squad overperformed on the opening weekend(like it's predecessors) and worldwide, most people predicted it would do 600 million at max and some even dared calling it a flop, saying BvS negavity would damage it's BO, i don't think the hate will destroy it at all, plus the real competition only comes 2 weeks after it's release. I suppose WW will be an entertaining movie(we all know that's the reason BvS didn't hit 1 b, audience can tolerate flaws, but they can't with an overlong movie that seemed more like a drama movie than a CBM) so i doubt it underperforms.

It's a reasonable prediction for the summer but I don't see Captain Underpants doing well. It seems wayyy too late.

It's a reasonable prediction for the summer but I don't see Captain Underpants doing well. It seems wayyy too late. Don't forget though, the reason why family movies do well at the box office has nothing to do with quality, or even popularity really. Its because the average family is about 5 people large (2 parents 3 kids), as opposed to the "couples" that usually go see other types of movies. Something like Star Wars is a movie that attracts every size/type crowd.

Wonder Woman has potential as does Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 2. Valerian's unlikely to catch on domestically.

Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 was disappointing. From an entertainment perspective it was good but there was a lull at few points of the story. It was going in too many directions.
I still think it will be popular but be warned that with all the colors you may imitate bacon frying in a pan if you're epileptic.
