The shift in inflection at the end of The Conversation was off-putting. There's a big difference between "He'd kill us if he could." (He 's a threat to us.) and "He'd kill us if he could." (He 's a threat to us so it's okay if we kill him.) I saw that as a indication of Harry's mental status.

April Fool's Day. The majority of the movie is this really silly horror comedy full of cringeworthy jokes, but the last 10 minutes are genuinely creepy and have a completely different tone. Apparently this part was added afterwards to make the movie scarier.

As I've mentioned before, Sion Sono's Tag, I felt the reveal at the end was awkward, heavy handed and unimaginative.

Video games like Singularity (2010) even used an ending like this. Fair enough, I just found it a little clunky. I really liked the film up to that point and it sort of lost me there. Maybe if it was done with a little more subtly or ambiguously I would have appreciated it more. Still among my favorite Sono's though, for everything that came before.

NO WAY OUT (1987) After all of Costner's heroics on behalf of his country for 112 minutes, it turns out in the final four minutes that he's really 'Yuri,' a Russian mole planted years ago.

The entire second half is like a different movie in the case of From Dusk Till Dawn though. If all of a sudden vampires showed up in the last 10 minutes it would have made the movie terrible. Well... I do think in 10 Cloverfields case it almost feels like an epilogue. Like the main story with the bunker and Goodman was all over with...and here’s a 10 minute action sequence with an alien spaceship. I don’t think it necessarily undercuts the movie but it certainly ends on a different note than expected.This. In my case, i´m not a fan of Cloverfield, but I love 10 Cloverfield Lane. Yes, it ends on a total different note, but it doesn´t ruin the movie for me at all.

My overall Sono ranking.Probably a few unpopular choices, but that's how they stack up for me.

Identity (2003).
Woeful waste of a promising premise.

I actually started to dislike the direction the story goes before that, but I just stopped caring completely once the aliens are shown.

Identity (2003). Woeful waste of a promising premise. I LOVE the insane twist ending. That is actually the reason it is one of my favorite movies. It is awesomely far fetched and I have never seen anything quite like it at that point. It isn't as if it comes out of nowhere, the whole courthouse subplot is directly tied to the twist. Those parts would make no sense without the ending.

The Jessup thing in A Few Good Men--I remember Ebert mentioned that Cruise, before the trial, says he is going to make Jessup so angry he will hang himself. So it wasn't even a surprise. Would have made more sense if it was unexpected.
I liked the time travel ending in Superman--it suggested that he could do anything, and it was the one act in the movie he did for himself, not others. He defies Jor-El to do it "You are forbidden to interfere with human history" and is thinking about Pa Kent when he does it.
