So the one good thing about Corona crisis is that I am spending MUCH less than what I would normally spend. 1. no Cinema tickets, no concession spendings in cinema - and I used to go 4times a week so this is actually a big change 2. No Ubers, no Gas, no Metro-cards 3. no dining out 4. no drinking out/clubbing with friends 5. no theatre/concerts 6. no makeup 7. no hairdresser, no manicure, no pedicure, no upkeep basically 6. no new clothes, and less on laundromat fees 7. no unnecessary shit overall It actually adds up to quite a big saving. So that makes me feel somewhat better about having no income . How about you, have you looked and seen what you are saving on? And if so, does that make you happy and will you try to keep it even post corona?

I do not know.
Less on gas for sure. Lol I haven't gone to a restaurant or fast food for 6 (?) weeks. I bought more food and toiletries. Climate control is on 24/7.
Time will tell.

My daughter has cerebral palsy so we keep the temperature comfortable when she is home. She used to go to a day program and we would let the temperature vary. What about you?

Which is breaking my heart because I don't remember the last time gas prices were this low!! I do, however, remember when gas prices were almost $5.00 per gallon. Now that it's so low, it would be so nice to travel, even if it isn't necessarily far away, but the freedom to travel into the mountains, drive around for the day or go away for the weekend, visit the grandparents, go to the beach (legally!). I'd be happy with what some would consider "small time travelling." I don't need to go to Brazil or South America or anything.... Sometimes I think about it, but truth his this whole virus thing has made me reconsider the whole concept of travel and how important it is. To me? It isn't that important. I've got other things much more important in my life.

Like you say a little outing would be nice. Eye on the prize SIGH

What about you? its warm enough here (NYC) where no heat is needed day or night and not too warm yet so no AC really needed either, so this is the perfect time to be stuck at home for me.

Just take a really long drive somewhere, maybe even a cross country roadtrip, none of that is illegal so why not, especially if I stay away from big cities… there is so much to see in the US...

I picked a little. The only reason it went down some is no going out to restaurants. I am now encouraged by all the savings and looking for additional ways to save. I am thinking of cancelling TV subscription. It became REALLY apparent I dont watch it. Other than occasional news (like once a day fore 5 minutes) I have not turned the tv on in 6 weeks that I have been home. I should also be getting some money back on car insurance, since my car has been just parked outside of my house for more than a month now. I wonder if there is anything else I can cut down on. I mean being a woman you really save a lot just on not taking the "i am going out" type of care of yourself… I guess you guys dont have that pillow to suck dollars from...

really? If you dont mind sharing, does that mean that your lifestyle pretty much has not changed? Yes its pretty much the same. The only change is that i try only go to the store once a week instead of 2-3 times a week as i used to. And no i don`t spend my time socializing with a bunch of people, i spend most of my time alone at home or goes for walk where there are not many people as i have always done and that is how i like it. If i feel like speaking to somebody i will just call them, i don`t have this need to talk to people face to face. I can be social if i have to but i prefer not to.

My situation is pretty much like Nora's.
I haven't dipped into the entertainment budget, except to re-join NETFLIX, which I discontinued about a year ago. And, there's no outsourced "beauty program." Nails and hair are all done at home.
I've seen one big surprise savings. The street that parallels mine to the south is quite commercial. The street beyond that is highly commercial. I didn't realize how much I have been wandering the familiar streets, with all of the familiar stores, and buying "this and that." I see, now, what I was doing. And, most often, I didn't NEED "this" or "that." And, many of those stores/shops are closed, anyway. We'll see how my new-found awareness plays out, when this mess is over.
Like many apartment dwellers, here, I use a nearby laundromat for wash. I don't want to handle machines, and push buttons ... as I have for years. So, I've started taking sheets, towels, sweats, etc., to the cleaners across the street. They do a "wash 'n fold," which really isn't much more expensive, considering how often I go to the laundromat. They're fast, and they text me when my wash is ready. I may keep that "in the act."

"Yes its pretty much the same."
Same here. All the things I like to do has not been banned. Hiking, boating, biking, fishing, cooking on my grills, etc.
Like I said the only real change for me is not going out to eat once in awhile.
