Mary Pickford has dual roles in the charming silent drama, Little Lord Fauntleroy (1921) playing 12 year old Cedric Errol and His Mother Dearest "Widow Errol" . With some early innovative camera work they often appear naturally together.

Bannai Tarao is the name of a set of Japanese mysteries the first, Seven Faces was made in 1946 featuring a detective of the same name who could take on seven different faces in solving a crime... Bannai was played by the outstanding veteran actor Chiezō Kataoka. who portrayed the character in eleven movies from 1946 until 1960, sadly only a couple of the series are available with Eng subs... Tarao Bannai senritsu no nanakamen , "Seven Faces of Private Eye Bannai Tarao" (1956) Chiezo Kataoka gives tremendous performances, in an exciting crime drama. He gives more than just a character in disguise, at times you suddenly realise that's him !.... From ships captain to street-wise cabbie, each of his seven disguises gives it its own character with nuanced play, revealing a very impressive range of people's types and emotions. Even Tarao Bannai himself seems to be just another role of Kataoka's character in the film, which raises a philosophical question, which of the different roles is the real "Tarao Bannai"? Bannai does answer this question at the end of the film...

No-one else would touch this with a barge-pole. Leave it to the limey to take out the trash. Here goes: Adam Sandler plays both siblings, Jack and Jill, in (wait for it ...) Jack and Jill (2011) dir: Dennis Dugan. I feel sullied. I will have a nice fortifying cup of Lysol and lie down.

Marie Bell has dual roles in the excellent French melodrama Le Grand Jeu (1934) directed by Jacques Feyder. Florence is a confident and outgoing socialite, whereas bar entertainer Irma is somewhat shy & naive From the Parisian high life to a North African Foreign Legion backdrop, written by the director and Charles Spaak the film is a wonderful example of French "poetic realism". The theme of a man re-inventing a new lover in the image of his old one was again later explored by Alfred Hitchcock in Vertigo.
