We're in a pandemic so leaders say, as do those clowns in the WHO. We're told what to do each night and each day, to do as they say...not as do.
We must follow the rules, so listen, perpend, advice that we must not pooh-pooh. They say it's good for the country to mend, so do as they say...not as do.
Wokefully strange that we don't have to think, and must stick to their edicts like glue. If we don't, they say, we're all on the brink, so do as they say...not as do.
We now have to wonder how long this can last, 'fore people get wise to the few. Greed for power, control, just bury the past, and do what they say...not as do.

Blackest of black Coldest of cold Dreary night sky Regrets of days old Why did I choose this? Where are you now? My fingers caress the sheets Once where you laid Your scent does still linger My debt I still pay Goodbye I shout, goodbye I do say But forever you’ll haunt me Please go away

Dust engulfs my lung Burning eyes sting with tears Chest expands to give me relief My heart boasts to explode
Dryness consumes my tongue Uncertainty expanding my fears My feet can’t keep on moving My strength prepares to implode
Red lights flash in the distance My soul does take a deep dive Bruised on the outside Broken on the inside Happiness my future does not bode
No longer do your brake lights flash in my vision Faint is the sound of your horses No matter my will, you’re no longer here Alone did my fortune forebode
I collapse Staring at the stars I see my future Lost in a sea false compass machines I’ll never know where I’m to go

Finding Utopia?
Now we're in charge we can wipe all our crimes, and show that we've got a New Way. Democracy's leaving, prepare for new times, so go take your fun while ye may.

My crime, my crime Passion is so divine In the moment it’s raw Unwavering attention to our time
Nothing else matters I’m living to breath your air Blinded to the scarlet flags reflecting outside your window They scream but my ears are distracted to this affair
The fire is rising I’m convinced I’m cold and need the warmth You’re awe inspiring My soul is alive while my body is dying
My crime, my crime Passion is so divine Afterwards we’re empty Left unfilled and tried
My crime, my crime Passion is a lie It was fun while it lasted I’m chasing another high

Can't go here, can't go there, due to bats? or acid rain? Our great elite go ev'rywhere, wish I had a private plane.

Democracy?
You say I can vote no I.D.? and no one will utter a grouse? No, my name is not Johnny O'B ---! My handle is Mickey McMouse.
Ten ballots? you're serious, no? What's that? you say there are more? Then this one's for Mister Magoo, And that one for Quick Draw McGraw
You're sure this is all on the up? The slammer? Don't want to end there! OK, now Scooby Doo's pup. The next one? Ah yes! Yogi Bear!
My, my, yet another Jon Voight, Aha! I've signed my last name, but feeling that all is not right, Still! I'm told it's the rules of the game

Dark and Light Grey Clouds
Layered overcast clouds Starting somewhere below the Tops of half bare trees and Whatever else is under them Dark grey on top of light grey Light grey on top of them and Dark on top of them until You're staring straight up at A slow moving swirl of Dark and light grey clouds

Here's a little ditty I wrote for my kids. So long ago I think the dinosaurs were still lurking about. (This is updated. I'd forgotten there was a 1st verse.) When you're small you start to crawl, then you start to walk, gurgling happily all day long then you start to talk. Now quite still, to Mom you cling, soon for sleep you're set, I'll quickly teach you how to sing, The Easy Alphabet. A, B, C, and then there's D E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, then comes N, O how time does fly. P, Q, R, so now there's S, T-time's nearly here. U, V, W, and X, Y, Z, that's the end I fear. ~~~~~~ It's better with the music.

Married with children I’m trying to keep my demons at bay My hallmark family, lost inside a miserable dream I hate my job, wishing to relive glory days All state forward, ten three pointers in a single game
My wife nags, my daughter won’t close up her legs It’s me they humiliate And all of my money they take My son is weird, constantly trying to get laid I drink my troubles away, look at the mess that I’ve made
My father’s curse with follow me into my grave It really hurts, they steal every penny I make Filled with rage, my knuckles bleed every day But it’s okay, this shitty life is all that I get Married with children

Little Trees with White Flowers
Little trees with white flowers Shake calmly in the light breeze Their pettles slowly letting go
A strong gust of wind will take more Who were patient and ready To speckle the green grass below

Consider the Tomato
Consider the tomato, The sweetly bitter sphere, Unidealized by Plato Uneaten once for fear, But grown now in my garden, In which I search for signs That green may soon unharden And red may mark the vines — But not robustly ripened, Not sanguine red when picked. I grab my summer stipend Before Earth sees she’s nicked.
When back inside I shiver: I realize, with a thud, A sampling of the giver Is in each drop of blood.

“It goes too fast,” they said
Ten years since graduation, and I’m still in school (or at least I am in this current universe), still stopping by the library just before class. I’ll grab a movie to watch at the dorm (when my roommate’s out partying). The librarian asks for my I.D. The scanning seems to take ten years. At this rate I’m gonna be late for class! “Is there a problem?” I say, non- confrontationally as possible. She looks worried, very worried. The library clock that really was there, that ticks away the minutes and the hours, and the years, keeps ticking on. I’m going to be late for class. The supervisor, as usual, comes over, taps on some keys, and hands me a water bottle and a pencil. It takes me minutes, yes, minutes, to realize I can’t watch a film that way. She says, “There are people dying. There’s a pandemic going on, you know,” yes, ten years ago that is now. Each clock is the doomsday clock, someone said. I sprint across campus. Too late. I’ve missed the most crucial class of my life and failed the most final exam again.

alfromni , you may appreciate this: I wrote a song lyric the other day for a songwriting livestream in which you send in lyrics and the host sets them to music. I ended up not being that crazy about the music he wrote for it, but I think my lyric’s decent. I’m sure you’ll pick up on the steal from W.S. Gilbert! Everything Rusts in the EndWhen I was a lad, this bike I had Was the one possession that possessed me. I rode, high-speed, on my gallant steed, And the other kids never could best me. But then, dumb kid, one night I hid That bike outdoors by the dockside. One night, and yet I never will forget The lesson I learned about oxide… Everything rusts in the end, Everything goes ’round the bend— From iron-clad schemes to silvery dreams— Everything rusts in the end. Everything rusts in the end, No matter how we pretend— From a childhood toy to the Towers of Troy— Everything rusts in the end. Happiness is happening every day, You’ll hit that mother lode! But don’t believe the old cliché That gold cannot corrode! Everything rusts in the end, From a bike to a favorite friend. When a lover true gives her last adieu, Even you will rue a fact you always knew… That our quaint honor turns to iron dust, ’Cause everything’s gonna rust in the end!

Nalkarj --- Judge (Trial by Jury), Porter KCB (HMS Pinafore) come to mind. Perhaps a little from the Murgatroyd ghosts.
