Cameron is destroying cinema. No idea what the subscribe-only linked story is about, but the idea that gee whiz CGI and formula action movies are the ultimate expression of cinema art is ludicrous. Let's scratch Casablanca and Shawshank as ho-hum boring crap shall we?

Avatar producer Jon Landau has divulged new details about what we can expect from the next three installments in the franchise — first, when it comes to the nature of Oona Chaplin’s previously announced role in Avatar 3. The Game of Thrones alum — also known as the granddaughter of Charlie Chaplin — has been cast in the role of Varang, the leader of the more evil, fire-themed Na’vi tribe known as the Ash People, which will be at the crux of the third installment. “There are good humans and there are bad humans. It’s the same thing on the Na’vi side,” Landau recently told Empire, echoing comments previously made by filmmaker James Cameron about the subject up for exploration in Avatar 3. “Oftentimes, people don’t see themselves as bad. What is the root cause of how they evolve into what we perceive as bad? Maybe there are other factors there that we aren’t aware of.” Landau went on to share that Avatar 4 will feature “a big time jump,” before reiterating that the fifth film will make the leap from the moon Pandora for some time on Earth. The Earth of Avatar is not unlike our own, per the producer — ruled by “over-population and a depletion of our natural resources that make life harder.” Landau clarifies, though, that the Avatar team doesn’t “want to paint a bleak picture for where our world is going. The films are also about the idea that we can change course.”

Is the entire tribe going to evil though?

“In a breathtaking demonstration of the heft and breadth of James Cameron’s filmmaking career, this match-up, no matter the outcome, is a testament to the famed director’s impact on the zeitgeist in a multigenerational display of cinematic relevance and box office dominance,” says Comscore box office analyst Paul Dergarabedian.
Cameron lays claim to three of the four top-grossing movies of all time at the worldwide box office in an unprecedented feat, not adjusted for inflation. No. 1 is 2009’s Avatar ($2.92 billion), while Marvel and Disney’s Avengers: Endgame ($2.8 billion) is No. 2. Titanic momentarily remains No. 3, and The Way of Water is No. 4.

Cameron on a possible tv series:
"Right now, the economics don’t make sense to spin off any of our CG main characters onto TV. But the cost of these things will progressively come down as we introduce machine deep learning into the processes and make them more automated," Cameron explains. "Ask me again in five years."

Cameron teases that a new nomadic tribe of Na'vi called the Windtraders will be introduced in future Avatar sequels: “There’s rainforest, there’s arctic, there’s desert, there’s oceans, all those different biomes and all the creatures and cultures. Not only did we have to do creature design, but we had to do cultural design and imagining what these different Na’vi adaptations to these different biomes might look like. Desert people, the Windtraders that travel around, that sort of thing.” screenrant.com/avatar-navi-tribes-details-nomads-james-cameron/

"...In a recent interview with Deadline, Cameron suggested that "the Windtraders" may debut in the third Avatar movie. The Oscar-winning filmmaker described this previously unseen Na'vi tribe as "desert people... that trade, that travel around [Pandora]." movieweb.com/avatar-3-might-introduce-wind-and-fire-navi/And they lived together in harmony....then everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.

The inconsistency rankles. Top Gun: Maverick has been heralded as the saviour of the industry, having scooped nearly $1.5bn at the box office in the arid and precarious post-pandemic landscape. At the Oscar nominees luncheon, Tom Cruise was swarmed and adulated like Daenerys with the freed slaves in Game of Thrones; Steven Spielberg gave Cruise his fawning gratitude for “saving Hollywood’s ass”. Where, I ask, was this love for Avatar?
Even without China it was HALF a BILLION ahead of Top Gun worldwide. Thats not a A hair’s breadths away.
