I'm no expert on Jason Bateman. But whenever I see him in anything, he's always playing a doormat, a cuckold, a fool, etc.
It's getting to the point with me that whenever he's the star of any movie, or web series, I'm not interested.
He never plays a good example of a man.
What do you think?

Since The Gift, he's grown on me. I dug both Horrible Bosses and Game Night. It was weird hearing his voice in a Disney movie, but I found him funny in Zootopia.

He is great at playing a certain type of character and a "strong-willed man" isn't usually one of them.

You should see The Gift. Granted, not a good example of a man, but a doormat he ain't. One of the most believable performances as a bully ever.

He never plays a good example of a man. What would that be like? Somebody with good morals, ethics, courage and respect.

When he was a child actor I found him rather smug and irritating, but I've come to respect him as an adult actor. I thought The Gift was great and I'm a big fan of TV series Ozark.

When he was a child actor I found him rather smug and irritating, but I've come to respect him as an adult actor. I thought The Gift was great and I'm a big fan of TV series Ozark. I might check out The Gift just out of curiosity. But it didn't look interesting to me when I saw it advertised on Netflix. (It looked like another example of a Jason Bateman character making bad decisions, and being walked on and screwed over by his so called "friends and loved ones". The character Jason Bateman plays in Ozark is the epitome of the kind of character he always seems to play. He's always declaring his love and concern for his family. So what does he do? Inspite of his apparent qualifications, knowledge and skill --- and many legitimate employment options --- he goes to work laundering money for a violent Mexican drug cartel. Whose boss is famous for murdering his employees. No surprise, through just 5 episodes he's murdered Bateman's partner, his girlfriend --- and continually threatened to torture and kill Jason Bateman's wife and kids. How is that taking care of his family? Not to mention, his wife is an admitted serial adulterer who blames him for everything --- even punches him in the face --- and what does he do? He just takes it. (Oh yeah, he masturbates to secret videos of his wife cheating on him.) Once again, he is not playing a good example of a moral, ethical, or courageous man --- who people respect.

Its ok not to like certain character types. Bateman lately feels like a certain character type that i personally enjoy watching. But Im entertained by the shades of gray in humanity and don't mind protagonists having darker sides to them.

Looks like Jason Bateman is going to make his career out of always playing "the pathetic loser".

I'd argue it comes across as more of a sophisticated weasel type, but everyone experiences things differently.

Hopefully you would admit "the sophisticated weasel type" is not a man most would see as moral, ethical, courageous and deserving of respect.

Absolutely...but I don't always need my protagonist to be someone i look up to. I enjoy plenty of protagonists with questionable morality and character. For example...i dont think anyone is arguing that Marty Byrde (Ozark) is a man to model your life after.
