I don't care if I am wrong, I just won't shut up if I think I am right. In this case I could be wrong and just have no way to verify it either way, so no use in arguing it.

Nightmare on Elm St.
Both are iconic and introduced iconic villains. Hellraiser was in some ways the better movie but Pinhead played a relatively small role leaving the film without a strong antagonist for most of it. Hellraiser II is probably technically a better film but it introduces a new bigger bad, Dr. Channard as the main antagonist and Pinhead takes a back seat.
The original Nightmare was full on horror, before Freddy started cracking jokes. It also has the scariest premise since none of us can avoid sleep and dreaming. NOES also has better sequels and is the stronger franchise. Plus Freddy is an easier, more fun Halloween costume.
