The Holy Ghost is the Lepidus of the trio.
He occasionally subs in as Casper the friendly ghost; he's most popular on halloween.

Thanks, this is a semi -serious question as I seriously don't understand the concept. I googled and found this from a bible study website! I was hoping however from some of out posters for an explanation of how it actually works in their religion, as I am genuinely curious. I aske Cody, however he has not answered yet.

I always heard him called the comforter;
And as a kid, I had visions of...
And other times, I heard him referred to as a ghost...the Holy Ghost.
But not exactly like that...something different...something not scary.
I just figured he was always there but never really doing much. Until I grew up and realized there was probably never anything there.

Isn't the Holy Ghost the one who got Mary pregnant? Do mean like this? Nice hat! Though in the Bible is says he appears more often as a dove I guess as God's messenger he is ornithologically variable.

The Holy Spirit is the spirit of God and it's a broad topic. One of the well-known verses about that is 2 Corinthians 3:17: "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom."
His role is essentially to be present with the believers in their walk with Jesus Christ giving them guidance, fortitude, counsel, and understanding into the natural and unseen spiritual worlds as stated by Isaiah 11:1-2. Jesus's life is not without mention of the Holy Spirit. Even Matthews 4 opens with saying "Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness..." whereas Luke 4 mentions Jesus was full of the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit essentially gave Jesus the power to perform miracles since Jesus was a man of flesh. There's also stuff about the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the fruits of the Holy Spirit, and the spiritual gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I still don't 'get' it however what you say makes a weird kind of sense if you suspend belief in the natural world for a minute and overlook the multitude of logical problems and anomalies in the whole set of ideas, which is pretty much impossible.

My understanding of the doctrine: God the Father: exists apart from humans in judgement, issuing commands via his prophets God the Son: manifests amongst humans, living the human experience and interacting with them directly God the Holy Spirit: exists within people, granting them the will to live the Christian life
If you want to think of it in less airy-fairy terms, basically you know the good feeling people get when they attend a church service, or perform a good deed, or say a prayer to their god? You know the drive that exists in some people to carry out actions in God's name? You know the emotional support people find in their faith at times of crisis? These emotions are supposedly the Holy Spirit interacting with the believer.

I don't know why anyone would think mslo would give a coherent response, because mslo is one of the many incoherent posters here.
Now, for a "coherent" response.
Jesus said that he would leave this world, but there would still be the Holy Ghost.
He said the Holy Ghost was the comforter.
He said you could blaspheme him, but you couldn't blaspheme against the Holy Ghost and still be forgiven. Of course, there is a catch there, too, since you are "reborn" and a new person, the old person is lost, but the fragment that is left of you can still be forgiven. You just won't be as magnificent.
We have some bits of information. Greek "parakletos" for comforter denotes someone there by your side, to help. Of course, this is translated first to Greek from Hebrew and Aramaic mix. Most likely Hebrew, the academic standard of the time.
Since the presence of God's trinity is now only on Earth in the form of the Holy Ghost, I dare say that means a lot of power on Earth is for evil, and we're called upon to bring the Holy Ghost into power.
It surely isn't coincidence that Jesus used the power of God to heal, never to kill, yet one of the first things Peter does is call upon a spirit to kill two people who dared to test the authenticity of the church, and Peter proved those two right to doubt him, since he called upon a spirit to kill them.
Now, it couldn't have been the "Holy Ghost" that killed Ananias and Sapphira, by definition. It was a demonic spirit of decay and/or death. Not one of Jesus.
Since then, the chair of Peter has called upon evil so much that the Holy Ghost is like a needle in a haystack, and we have to find that needle.
