Please see Oklahoma City and the Paul George deal.
What about it? I didn’t see OKC winning anything. Exactly
They're in rebuild mode acquiring assets and are going to trade CP3 and Steven Adams this offseason as well (even though they shocked everybody by being good last year - they also got Gallinari and SGA in that deal from the Clips).
Acquiring 5 1st Round Picks for a Star = you're building for the future

So conversely the Sixers would be giving up their future?

So conversely the Sixers would be giving up their future? If you choose to look at that way - possibly
I choose to look at as they're putting together a Big 3 of Harden, Ben, Embiid who will win multiple Championships
I also look at it as - Doc, Morey, Brand are players coaches, GMs, President's etc.
See what happened with the Lakers this year - i.e. good players will to play for cheap to win a title with LeBron
I see down the line - players wanting to come here - despite possibly getting more money elsewhere just to win a Chip
Let's keep in mind. Ben is still 24. Joel is 26.
They're still young
I'd argue Ben and Joel are our future.

#14, #16 and #30 may get the Celts to what like #8?
Those assets are much more valuable in a trade with one of their own players to get an established piece
I'm sure the TWolves and Warriors are in talks with the Sixers about Ben/Joel for the #1 and #2 picks
I'm balking at that unless it's a ransom we're getting back

I'd have to get more in that deal.
Harden is 31. Jo-Jo 26
The thought is intriguing
You move Simmons to the '5' and play small ball
Surround Simmons with shooters, shooters and more shooters
I don't do that deal unless I'm getting Gordon, Tucker and Covington back as both teams mix and match slop to make it work.

Bill Simmons laid out the revenue math on a recent pod... the league could actually make up for a lot of lost COVID-19 revenue simply by expanding to Seattle & Las Vegas (or any 2 places, but those would surely pay the most). The best part, neither franchise would even need to be ready for another 1-2yrs anyways, when fans could likely return.
The problem as it is of course is players want their cake & eat it too. They don't want to return too soon, but they also don't want to take a huge haircut with a 40 game season.

These players are in their 20s and 30s - they're getting exercise for a career
You take that month off after the Championship to hold the Draft and have a free agency period.
What other career out there gives you like 4 months off besides teachers?
I'd do this in a 4 sports

NBA & NHL are actually more concerned about their 2021-22 seasons getting back to normal, which means they want to wrap 2021 no later than July, which in the NHL's case is pretty much mandatory since NBC pulls up shop & flies to Tokyo for the Olympics no matter what.

“Hi, Houston? Would you be interested in 5 worthless draft picks and all the players from our team that aren’t all that good?” Please see Oklahoma City and the Paul George deal.
Completely different circumstances though. Harden's not a free-agent/about to opt out.

Player reps could be close to approving a December 22nd start to the season, which would be 72 games.

I admittedly don’t follow the NBA as closely as other sports but am I missing something about Harden? He’s not a free-agent is he? He would have to be acquired in a trade, right? All this talk of “pursuing” James Harden is just talk, and what makes anyone think Houston would entertain any notion of a trade not involving Simmons or Embiid? The whole thing is laughable, coupled with the fact that Harden hasn’t won shit either. It's like you know the NBA better than yellingpeepers, despite admittedly not following it closely.
