Gal Gadot is apparently playing Cleopatra in a new movie. Thoughts?

I think she might be able to pull off the role.

It's great casting. The negative reactions are ridiculous. This isn't a Gods of Egypt situation.

I don’t agree with the intersectional anger, but she’s not an incredibly good actress. Hopefully she can step up her game.

I am fine with it, Cleopatra was Greek and Gal Gadot can pass as Greek.

Just another Hollywood "brand" remake no one wanted with the standard mix of forced political globalism and fake virtue signaling/agitprop thrown in.
The difference between this and the 1963 version is that the audience focus was more assured then and if you didn't care for that one (I didn't) you could always watch Cleopatra's Daughter, or Nefertiti Queen of the Nile or Slave Queen of Babylon or a number of other similar kinds of historical films because you had more choices than today.

Well, I hope the producers aren't hoping to make a ton of money in Egypt with this movie!
Personally I don't have a problem with casting her as Cleopatra, but considering how Egyptians feels about Israel it might have been a better idea to cast someone else. This is a bit like casting a Japanese actress to play a Chinese queen.

Sucks, and not because she's not Egyptian. Cleopatra's beauty was exaggerated. She was a frumpy inbred. If we needed more Cleopatra portrayals (which we don't) it'd be cool to see one that's closer to reality. Instead we're getting another mythy glamour flick.

I'm confused. Are you saying you want more remakes of historical films about Egyptians or not? the standard mix of forced political globalism and fake virtue signaling/agitprop thrown in. Ummm... How so? This is a bit like casting a Japanese actress to play a Chinese queen. You mean because of international conflicts? Well, I don't think it's a good comparison. Casting one to play the other would be like saying "They look the same and no one will notice the difference." However, Chinese and Japanese people have certain physical differences that are obvious to them but not to most outsiders.

She released a statement.
"First of all, if you want to be true to the facts then Cleopatra was Macedonian. We were looking for a Macedonian actress that could fit Cleopatra. She wasn't there, and I was very passionate about Cleopatra. I have friends from across the globe, whether they're Muslims or Christian or Catholic or atheist or Buddhist, or Jewish of course. People are people, and with me I want to celebrate the legacy of Cleopatra and honor this amazing historic icon that I admire so much. You know, anybody can make this movie and anybody can go ahead and do it. I'm very passionate that I'm going to do my own too."
