www.yahoo.com/entertainment/joaquin-phoenix-star-napoleon-epic-175651700.html"Joaquin Phoenix is re-teaming with his “Gladiator” director Ridley Scott for “Kitbag,” an epic historical drama about the life of Napoleon Bonaparte. Phoenix will star as the French Revolution commander who goes on to become the French emperor. Deadline first reported the news. The movie’s title comes from the saying: “There is a general’s staff hidden in every soldier’s kitbag.” Per Deadline: “‘Kitbag’ is an original and personal look at Napoleon’s origins and his swift, ruthless climb to emperor, viewed through the prism of his addictive and often volatile relationship with his wife and one true love, Josephine. The intention of the film is to capture Napoleon’s famous battles, relentless ambition, and astounding strategic mind as an extraordinary military leader and war visionary.” “Kitbag” joins Mike Mills’ “C’mon C’mon” on Phoenix’s slate of films following his Oscar-winning turn in “Joker.” The “Kitbag” script is being written by Scott’s “All the Money in the World” collaborator David Scarpa. The film will be produced by Scott and Kevin Walsh for Scott Free. 20th Century Studios is behind the project. News of “Kitbag” arrives as Scott finishes production on “The Last Duel,” starring Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Adam Driver, and Jodi Comer. Adapted from the book by Eric Jager, the film stars Affleck as King Charles VI, Damon as Knight Jean de Carrouges, and Driver as squire Jacques LeGris. The knight and his squire are forced to duel in order to settle a claim of sexual assault made by the knight’s wife, played by Comer. The film is set in 1386 and is also backed by 20th Century Studios. With “The Last Duel” moving into post-production, Scott will next head into filming his Gucci murder drama this March in Italy. “Kitbag” is being planned for production after the Gucci film, which stars Lady Gaga as Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci, who was the grandson of the founder of fashion empire Gucci. The movie recounts Reggiani’s trial and conviction of arranging Maurizio’s assassination in 1995. Robert De Niro, Jared Leto, Al Pacino, Adam Driver, and Jack Huston are also on tap to star. Scott and Phoenix’s Napoleon movie is aiming to succeed where Stanley Kubrick’s infamous Napoleon production failed. The “Eyes Wide Shut” director famously failed to get a mega-expensive Napoleon epic off the ground after the release of “2001: A Space Odyssey.” HBO has announced plans to turn Kubrick’s Napoleon script into a project with Cary Fukunaga attached to direct."

I wonder if this is going to be another movie trend. Epic, big-budget, CGI-enhanced, historical dramas about historical figures.
Gal Gadot - Cleopatra Joaquin Phoenix - Napoleon

Except if it is about a Chinese or African character. They used some unknown Chinese actress for Mulan and I doubt they would cast a Burmese actor for Shaka Zulu. But Europeans all look the same apparently so they can be given the globalist makeover.

If they give Scott a big enough budget this could be super cool...but unfortunately I could see them skimping on the finance and resorting to lots of CGI/green screen.

Phoenix is according to IMDB 173 cm But i have read that some historians thinks that Napoleon was as short as 157 cm which would make him 16 centimeters shorter than Phoenix, but most historians thinks Napoleon was 168-169 cm

There was also Abel Gance's NAPOLEON (1927). He had planned a six-part series about his life, but he only got up to Toulon and the Italian Campaign in Part 1.

Uh, Napolean was really short, like 5ft 6in. Phoenix looks taller than that. It’s called acting. In Hollywood, a long time ago before Marvel movies where you tired to make characters look screen accurate and not just choose the best actor for the role. You would actually just choose the best actor for the part and then make it work. Because movies are storytelling first. Plus, if we want to use CBMs as a reference, Tom Hardy is Bane. Nolan didn’t hire a 6’6” 350lb body builder. And he still looked the part due to camera angles and using shorter actors around him.

You can work around Phoenix's height by using oversized props and sets and have other actors/actresses stand on boxes.

A potentially Oscar award winning biopic role what a surprise.

Phoenix is a terrific actor, but...
He'll really have to be digitally "de-aged" if this film is, as described, about Napoleon's early career.
He was made a general at age 23. He became First Consul (dictator, basically) only 4 months after turning 30.
He was crowned Emperor at age 35.
Also, Napoleon never had surgery for a harelip.
