Dominican Republic-born musician, arranger, bandleader, and record producer Johnny Pacheco has left us at the age of 85, on February 15th. As a flutist and bandleader, he became one of the leading exponents of the Cuban charanga format in the United States in the early 1960's. As the founder and musical director of Fania Records, He became a leading figure in the New York salsa scene in the 1960's and 1970's. He popularized the use of the term "salsa" and established the Fania All-Stars to showcase the leading artists of the genre. As writer or performer or both his music appears on many soundtracks, and he was a music consultant on The Mambo Kings 1992. He is remembered by VarietyR.I.P. Johnny Pacheco

American editor Richard Bracken has left us at the age of 90, on February 11th. He received four Emmy noms, in 1972 for cutting the NBC series The Bold Ones: The Lawyers; in 1974 for the NBC telefilm A Case of Rape, starring Elizabeth Montgomery; in 1976 for the landmark ABC miniseries Rich Man, Poor Man; and in 1995 for the Larry McMurtry-penned CBS miniseries Buffalo Girls. He collaborated with director Wes Craven on Deadly Blessing 1981, Swamp Thing 1982 and The Hills Have Eyes Part II 1984. American cinematographer John Hora has left us at the age of 80, on February 9th. He worked with director Joe Dante in numerous films, including The Howling in 1981, Twilight Zone: The Movie in 1983, Gremlins in 1984 and its 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Explorers in 1985, and Matinee in 1993. Silver screen star of Soviet film classics, it was ‘The Irony of Fate’ in 1975 when Myagkov cemented his role as a Soviet cinema legend. He plays an awkward, alcoholic bridegroom who falls in love with an unlikely romantic interest after they are thrown together by chance on New Year’s Eve. The now famous film is traditionally watched by millions every NYE. Other excellent roles in collaboration also with director Eldar Ryazanov are treasured cinema classics enjoyed all around the world. Over the course of a three-decades long career, Andrey Myagkov played in over 50 roles on television and film, as well as his distinguished run on Moscow’s stages later in life. American actress Martha Stewart has left us at the age 98, on February 17th. She made her film debut in Doll Face 1945, in which she acted alongside Vivian Blaine and sang a duet with Perry Como. She then featured in Johnny Comes Flying Home 1946 opposite Richard Crane, then in I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now 1947 with June Haver. The following year, she starred with Donald O'Connor in Are You with It?. She also made one appearance on Broadway in the Park Avenue musical from 1946 to 1947. She performed one of her best-known roles as murder victim Mildred Atkinson in the classic In a Lonely Place 1950, opposite Humphrey Bogart. That same year, she featured in Convicted with Glenn Ford and Broderick Crawford. She went on to star in Aaron Slick from Punkin Crick 1952 alongside Alan Young and Dinah Shore. She appeared on television as the co-host of Those Two from 1952 to 1953. She only acted in twelve movies and television productions between 1945 and 1965, before retiring. American movie producer Peter S. Davis has left us at the age of 79, on February 21st. He was the producer on the Christopher Lambert-starring 1986 film Highlander that launched a bevy of sequels, television offshoots and video games. He also produced other features including The Death Collector 1976, starring Joe Pesci in his first credited role; Stunts 1977, starring Robert Forster in an early New Line Cinema film; The Osterman Weekend 1983, director Sam Peckinpah's final feature; and Cutting Class 1989, featuring a young Brad Pitt. Ronald Pickup (Best Exotic Marigold Hotel films and The Crown) has died aged 80. Oscar winning Sound editor Alan Robert Murray has left us at the age of 66, on February 24th. He was Oscar awarded for Letters from Iwo Jima 2006 and American Sniper 2014. A sound editor is an important job, the sound has to be precise at what we see in a movie, to make our experience better. Best known for his work as the set photographer from 1959 to 1968 on many of the seminal films of the French New Wave. His photographs are an important record of the New Wave directors at the beginning of their careers, and of their unconventional and groundbreaking production methods. Chinese-born Hong Kong actor Man Tat Ng has left us at the age of 69, on February 27th. He was a veteran actor in the Hong Kong film industry, with dozens of awards, including Best Supporting Actor at the 10th Hong Kong Film Awards for his role in A Moment of Romance 1990. He was best known for his comedic roles and was a versatile actor with many memorable performances throughout his career. Canadian actor Jahmil French has left us at the early age of 29, on March 1st. He was most noted for his regular role as Dave Turner in Degrassi: The Next Generation, for which he received a Canadian Screen Award nomination for Best Performance in a Children's or Youth Program or Series at the 1st Canadian Screen Awards in 2013, and his performance in the film Boost, for which he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 6th Canadian Screen Awards in 2018. American actor and Geoffrey Scott has left us at the age of 79, on February 23rd. Perhaps best known for appearing on the television series Dynasty for two seasons (1982 to 1984) as Mark Jennings, the first husband of Krystle Carrington (played by series star Linda Evans). He also appeared on numerous daytime soap operas, playing Sky Rumson on Dark Shadows in 1970, Jeffrey Jordan on Where the Heart Is in 1972, David McAllister on General Hospital in 1989, and Billy Lewis on Guiding Light in 1994. R.I.P Bunny Wailer Jamaican Singer, Songwriter, Musician.... A gentle prophet who possessed a calm & deliberate demeanor, a Rasta reggae superstar who wrote, sang & lived with absolute conviction. He appears in a number of documentary films and notably his song "Rockers" is featured on the soundtrack for the vibrant Jamaican cult classic film Rockers (1978)

English jazz musician and bandleader Chris Barber has left us at the age of 90, on March 1st. In 1959, the band's October 1956 recording of Sidney Bechet's "Petite Fleur", a clarinet solo by Monty Sunshine with Dick Smith on bass, Ron Bowden on drums and Dick Bishop on guitar, spent twenty-four weeks in the UK Singles Charts, making it to No. 3 and selling over one million copies, and was awarded a gold disc. After 1959, Barber toured the United States several times (where "Petite Fleur" charted at #5). Also in 1959, he and his band appeared in the movie and on the soundtrack in the movie version of Look Back in Anger. His music also appeared on other soundtracks. He is remembered by BBCR.I.P. English television director Peter Harris has left us at the age of 88, on February 23rd. Perhaps best known for his work on The Muppet Show, Spitting Image and Bullseye. He directed 73 episodes of the original The Muppet Show between 1976 and 1981, Emmy nominated twice, for the shows that starred Elton John 1978 and Liza Minnelli 1980.
