The first half was boring and slow. The main character is portrayed as always in a bad mood, unexplicably rude, never smiling, unambitious, unappreciative, and uninteresting.
She spends her nights at bars and clubs pretending to be drunk and vulnerable. Only to see how many pigs try to take advantage of her. She spends her days working at a coffee shop being rude to the customers. All the male characters are portrayed as sex addicted predators who want to rape drunk women. Or as a self deprecating douchbag who, when he's not apologizing for being a loser, is begging for dates. I know from experience, no woman is interested in that. Not even those that have been physically traumatized. These are the unrealistic movie cliches you are dealing with for the first half of the movie.
I actually fell asleep during the first half of the movie because it was so slow and uninteresting. I turned it off, watched the evening news, read the reviews, and decided to give it another chance. I was in and out during the first half of the second viewing, just trying to catch the parts I missed.
The second half was better when the main character starts exacting her revenge on the people who wronged her and her best friend. Hopefully people understand this is not a "how to" on how to pay back those that have wronged you in real life. But it makes for good cathartic entertainment.
The second half is good. The first half is boring, slow and uninteresting.
Did you see it?
What did you think?

I loved it. My fav film of 2020, actually didn't have a problem with the pacing.

I may give it a chance if it's easily accessible. It looks decidedly unsubtle on various levels.

Cant get enough of it.If Mulligan does not win best actress for this, then I will be very disappointed. For me it was so funny but black comedy in a shade of black that will make even a raven envious. Still such a long wait with Baftas and Oscar nominations only in March.

The main character is portrayed as always in a bad mood, unexplicably rude, never smiling, unambitious, unappreciative, and uninteresting. Are you actually TRYING to sound like one of the bad guys in the movie? Hahahahahahaha. On that note, not ALL the male characters are predators or "a self deprecating douchbag". The dad was fine, and it's actually a male character who basically saves the day at the end. So if anyone here's the kind of person who seeks validation of their sex from fictional characters in movies, don't fret! Also, female aren't let off the hook. Both Connie Britton and Alison Brie's characters are scum who played their part in the injustice. But yeah, I enjoyed the movie a lot. Didn't have a problem with the pacing, in fact, I thought the editing was one of the better elements.

It's just oversimplified and monotonous to portray all the male characters as predators or a self deprecating douchebag. The father was not an impressive character. And people like the cops at the end are not real developed characters. More like wall flowers or plot pieces. I liked the second half. I found the first half boring, cliche and one dimensional.

I wasn't referring to the cop characters. I thought the father was a whiny pussy. Not him, either. It was Alfred Molina's character who leaked the phone footage and contacted the police, making him basically the film's final hero.

That is not an impressive character. He defended the boys who raped her friend, cried in her lap begging for forgiveness, wondering if she was going to kill him. He was pathetic. Most men would never hit on a falling down drunk. Much less gang rape one. This is a typical man hating women's rights movie.

You think posturing on the internet about what a pussy everyone is is gonna fool anyone into thinking you're anything other than a beta incel keyboard warrior?

The worst character in the movie, period, is the college dean. A woman. And not many characters in Promising Young Woman are admirable all the way through.

I'm just telling it like it is. Tie dye wearing pony tail guys will still be slightly built, sunken chested, forward rolled shoulder, members of every women's rights groups they can find, thinking-hoping that will get them laid. But real men will continue to roll their eyes and laugh as they bang their girlfriends when their women want a real man to get them through the night. All the while men like you are eating kale with your legs crossed like a woman, planning the next march or talking women's issues at your local trendy coffee shop.

As the people who saw my pic the other day can attest, this description is like looking into a mirror! I'm sure nothing gets your totally real girlfriend wetter than when you laugh and roll your eyes while you think about sunken chested guys mid-"bang". The sheer alpha Chadery of criticizing women with PTSD for not smiling enough, saying that date rapists don't exist, and that remorse is for pathetic losers is too much for my malnourished kale body to handle. This is what happens when your entire worldview is shaped by subreddits and not enough human interaction.

I just commented on the depiction of one dimensional movie cliche male characters. And a super slow, drawn out and boring first half of a movie. Her personality and behavior wasn't attractive or interesting to me. And it went on too long. They could have and should have explained her behavior more quickly.

I never said anything about date rape "Most men would never hit on a falling down drunk." - which I don't think is untrue, but the movie is about the ones that would. "The main character is portrayed as always in a bad mood, unexplicably rude, never smiling, unambitious, unappreciative..." - those are symptoms of PTSD, which the main character obviously has. Yeah, she's not "attractive", but she's not supposed to be. Do people criticize Travis Bickle for being unattractive? And your argument for the male characters wasn't that they were one-dimensional, it was that they were predators and pussies. A sleazy lawyer turned remorseful good guy is by definition not one-dimensional. The love interest was obviously complex. Even the guy who raped her friend, the Big Bad, insisted on being faithful to his fiance. The only character without any redeeming qualities, as HFR said, was probably Connie Britton's.
