It seems that it is about political affiliations as you have indicated yourself. "SJW" is a right-wing formulation designed to mock the movement for equal civil rights. It is in the same category as "political correctness" or "woke." Your use of that particular conservative code shows exactly where you stand. SJW are right wing? Uh no they’re not. I’m independent and SJW’s are very left. They’re so left that not even the left likes them. In fact no one likes the SJW’s. So get your facts straight. Get yours. What I said was that the "SJW" accusation was right-wing created because conservatism is against equal rights for everyone and like to mock those who are to try to prevent progress being made in opening up justice and equal rights.

No, that tweet was a starting point for a discussion that resulted in people sharing Lindsay's old tweets (or screenshots of them) and quotes from certain videos. The combination of everything made her look problematic, even though she had already apologized for some of them in the past.
For example: Implying that being bisexual is a choice (even though that's how she identifies as) and claiming that cis women have a harder time out there in the world compared to trans men (even though she has criticized J.K. Rowling a lot for saying this kinds of things). She also said that THE PRINCE OF EGYPT is a bad movie because Moses was treated as a hero despite being an accomplice to the deaths of many children, and while I disagree with this statement, I don't think it's the kind of thing that deserves punishment (especially compared to the previous examples). On the contrary, it's common for Atheists to criticize God's behavior in the Old Testament and how his tests of faith go too far. Besides, you can't blame a movie based on the Bible for following the story.

I think she was implying that being bisexual means you can choose which gender you want to date, because you are attracted to both male and female. Not that it’s a choice to be bisexual. But people are quick to misinterpret that.

Ok I did not see that part. I apologize. Yes it originally started as a right wing thing, but then the left became stupid and became SJW’s and decided to look for anything only THEY deem offensive and try to get everything they don’t like banned. It needs to STOP!!! ON BOTH SIDES, but especially the left. Let’s start by shutting down Twitter seriously!!! It’s where all this SHIT starts.

I did not see it. I do watch Lindsey Ellis and think she has good takes on the whole. I don't think this tweet was racist or particularly offensive. I have to ask of this imbroglio: How much of this was concern trolling by the right? As much as they proclaim to hate modern day cancel culture, they will weaponize it to the fullest extent at any opportunity to give the "libs" a taste of their own medicine. And how much was from outraged Asians and leftists? Most of the people upset by what she said seem to lean left, the ones who lean right seem to not care and are using the phrase "eat their own". In any case, she deactivated her own account and thus showed weakness.

I've seen some of Lindsay's videos, she's a bit snobby for me but she is really smart and one of the more professional YouTubers. I didn't follow the controversy, but by your Cliff Notes version of it she's absolutely right. It was only a few years ago Millennial twitter activists were criticizing Moana as being corporate cash cow profiting off Samoan culture and mythology. In my opinion even that is a pointless discussion, but nuanced and noble. Now, Gen Z has come around and decided they're going to cut out the jazz of trying to take down the machine and just go after regular people. Now, this isn't a blanket criticism of Cancel Culture, because there are a lot of really bad or just really stupid people working within the system that can be chopped down and replaced with better people, but there's also the issue of nuance. Lindsay Ellis isn't one of those bad or stupid people, and what she said (at least your Cliff Notes version of it) was a nuanced take, and she seems to be attacked for daring to speak with nuance. They're essentially saying "We haven't put much thought into this #hashtagslogan we like, but we still like it, and we still will defend the literal interpretation of it, and if you dare to put any thought into it, we'll cut you down".

To be fair most critics are snobby or arrogant and in some cases both.

Did she really get pregnant on purpose...just so she can have an abortion?
That’s messed up.

The fact that there are now so many people on Twitter who are saying “I’m not watching such a long video” or “why did she make this long video instead of apologizing” goes to show that these people were arguing in bad faith from the beginning. She literally explains in the video why she refuses to apologize for the Raya tweet. They wouldn’t even need to sit through the whole video to hear her explanation. There are timestamps in the description.

She did have an abortion and made a short college film about it, but I've never heard it was on purpose and I'm not sure there's any evidence for it. It also wouldn't be the first whacky conspiracy about her abortion (another popular one is that it was Spoony's baby and the abortion is what eventually drove him insane). What she has done that can be proven is repeatedly sic twitter mobs on people (like MovieBob which she apparently semi-apologized for in her video in a condescending and backhanded way; though no mention of Quentin Reviews or her backfired attempt on Angry Video Game Nerd) which is why I'm not falling over myself feeling sorry for her. She's part of the culture that's attacking her.

I have no idea who she is or what this is about. I guess that's what I get for not watching crappy YouTube reviewers or following twitter Thems fightin' words. No, but seriously; I'm a big fan of her video essays.

No, but seriously; I'm a big fan of her video essays. Well, like I said, I've never even heard of her, so she might surprise me, but it's not the sort of thing I seek out. I'm just find it interesting how threads about "unknown" YouTubers invariably seem to generate more responses than those about actual cinema.

I have one last thing I’m going to say on this topic, and it’s the following: the left needs to stop with the ideological purity tests. Lindsay Ellis is obviously no saint, but to dig up each and every perceived transgression she’s made over the course of her lengthy Internet career and use it against her is pure nonsense, especially when it’s being done in response to a completely harmless tweet she made about a Disney movie being derivative. Here’s a newsflash: there’s no such thing as a pure human being. The sooner these online “activists” accept that, the better.
I’m not even saying this in defense of Lindsay Ellis. I’m saying it in the name of common sense. This shit doesn’t do the left any favors. Notice how the right doesn’t cannibalize their own like this? It’s because they don’t give a shit about purity tests, but they certainly do enjoy it when the left drained a stink about it. If they did care about that shit, then Donald Trump and Candace Owens never would’ve become popular among conservatives.
