The idiots on Twitter seriously canceled her because she compared Raya and the Last Dragon to Avatar: The Last Airbender. They claim that it’s racist to compare the two, because they think Raya was made by Asian people. They don’t seem to realize that Disney is a massive American corporation that’s run almost entirely by white people.
For the record, I’m not a huge fan of Lindsay Ellis as a person, but that doesn’t make this controversy any less nonsensical.

People love to make controversy of the dumbest shit nowadays. Do they not have real problems?

She always struck me as very White Feminist, especially in her critique of the way fascistic white savior Dany was portrayed in Game of Thrones. So there's a sort of catharsis to seeing her getting cancelled for racism, even if the "racism" in this case is nonsensical. I can't cry for her when I think of the way she endorsed the harassment of D&D for her perceived (and similarly nonsensical) "sexism".
This all reinforces why I don't use twitter.

She does frequently tackle the subject of racism and the depiction of minorities in media. I’ve got my problems with her, namely that she can come across as self-righteous and passive aggressive, but it’s not really accurate to say that she only tackles things from the perspective of white women. In any case, I don’t see how there could be any catharsis in something as ridiculous as this. She got branded a racist because she didn’t like a dumb Disney movie. That’s not something to celebrate.

He didn’t like her after he hired her because he realized she wasn’t a “yes man” and she was actually intelligent. She’s a better critic than him and refused to do his forced, juvenile humor.

I guess I'm in the same boat as her, since I'll be honest the teaser trailer gave me shades of Avatar vibes.

Her content is definitely superior to the Nostalgia Critic’s, but in all honesty, Doug Walker seems like he’d probably be an easier person to get along with in real life.

Anyone can pay lip service to something, but it's odd to address the "sexism" angle of Dany and not mention the racism. Unless of course Lindsay sees herself as a fellow white savior. Fundamentally, Dany was a narcissist who was using helping minorities to advance herself. Why someone like Lindsay would summarize it as "dragon lady bad" and whine about it is kinda telling. And since you ignored it, let me reiterate that she was endorsing the harassment of the creators, who were receiving death threats. She also took part in Change the Channel, which was largely petty grievances from vindictive ex employees trying to cancel the site. I'm not saying this particular controversy isn't ridiculous. It's dumb on multiple levels. But to me, it's kind of like OJ getting away with semi-decapitating two people but going to prison for stealing his own shit. I'm not exactly celebrating - I actually like some of her videos and have watched her since her Nostalgia Chick days - but there's some indirect karma here.

Her problem with the Daenerys thing wasn’t so much that the character was portrayed in a negative light, but more that she believed the writers went out of their way to make her as cartoonishly evil as possible in order to make Jon Snow as sympathetic as possible. Not saying I agree with her, but her argument is a bit more nuanced than you’re making it sound. And I ignored it because I had no clue what you’re even talking about. I’ve never heard anything about her encouraging people to harass D&D. If she did, then that’s pretty shitty, but to be frank, I’ve never seen that brought up before, even by her passionate haters, so for all I know, you could be making shit up. As for Change the Channel, a lot of the stuff in that document was pretty petty, but overall, it does sound like Channel Awesome probably wasn’t the best company to work for. They’ve apparently gotten better, though.

Here's the tweet that started all of this for those wondering: ![](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Exg6XZdVcAIHm78?format=jpg&name=900x900) That said, I've watched Lindsay's videos over the years, and she gives some interesting points in her essays. However, this (and the subsequent pushback she received) is nothing to quit Twitter over.

I used to love Nostalgia Critic back in 2007-2010. Just an angry guy sitting at a desk making funny angry rant videos about movies. The new content seems so over the top and it’s like he lost touch with what made him popular. He should have learned from Lindsay Ellis and maybe her degree in film could have helped him expand and grow Channel Awesome. I mean, my God. He’s been around as long as Angry Video Game Nerd. And he has like 8M subscribers on his Cinemassacre Channel. Channel Awesome just passed 1M subscribers this past year. I think he tried too hard to break away from the Nostalgia Critic character, but he takes himself too seriously. People don’t care about his “First Viewing” with his brother or what his thoughts are. The minute he drops a NC video, it’s instantly his most watched videos. James Rolfe AVGN actually stayed the same. And gave his fans what he wanted and grew/expanded the right way. But I digress. Yes. Ellis does seem to be a little uptight. And Doug does seem a little more fun.

Interesting that you're still holding up my noticing of very obvious and reoccurring themes in a director's films that are backed by his own statements to defend someone who accused that same director of hating his mother based on little if anything. No, I would not care to dig through it for you.

No, I would not care to dig through it for you. I wasn’t strictly talking about your stance that Zack Snyder is a bigot, but that is certainly part of it. In general, I just get the vibe that you’re someone who possibly likes to rub how smart and witty you are in other people’s faces. Again, I don’t know you personally, so I could be wrong on this. And yeah, Lindsay Ellis’ comment about Zack Snyder hating his mother was pretty bad of her, and she deserved to be called out for that, but this thing about her endorsing harassment against D&D is something I’ve never heard before. I certainly don’t recall her saying that when I watched her videos on GoT, but maybe my memory is just fuzzy. In any case, you made the claim, so the burden of proof is on you.
