Damn, that is some heavy bass work on the intro. Could be Questlove.

Watching in case there are any interesting performances. But I am not particularly excited with the nominees this year.

I’ve been watching it faithfully since 2004.
Still pissed Bill Murray didn’t win.

The setup is kind of weird. I know why they have to do it. But it’s still odd.

I always tune in for the Oscars. I'm part of the dwindling audience but I still enjoy watching. Same here. I never miss it. But it is pretty boring so far. I love the history. One of my most read books growing up was all about the Academy Awards. I think for those who are nominated, they join a group of names in their field that's great for any movie obsessive. I was led to so many great movies in childhood by reading about the history of the Academy Awards.
Martin Scorsese was once asked about why he wanted to win an Oscar so much. He said it would be nice because John Ford won four. That's what it means to a director like Scorsese - it's about seeing your name written in history alongside the likes of John Ford.

Why is Laura Dern dressed like the bottom half of a chicken?

I'm so glad Daniel Kaluuya is winning an Oscar with Lakeith Stanfield also nominated. Two outstanding young actors to my mind.

I love the history of films and Oscars. But that is what sometimes saddens me. Films that won Oscars used to have enormous historical and cultural significance. But in the last decade, I don’t feel that it has the same impact. Most are shortly forgotten. I feel the same with the nominees this year.

West Side Story teaser didn’t really tease me. But it is Spielberg, so I might give it a shot.

The setup is kind of weird. I know why they have to do it. But it’s still odd. We'll KNOW we're COMPLETELY out of the pandemic when The Oscars, and other awards shows are COMPLETELY back to "normal"........you know.....those overly long, INCREDIBLY 'dry' shows (with (mostly) bad attempts at "humor" by the awards presenter 'couples' reading off the teleprompters), punctuated only by just a FEW moments of real excitement over the course of the entire night !! NEVER thought I'd pine for those Oscar telecasts before the pandemic, when anticipation BEFORE the show started, always ended up leading to deep disappointment sometime about the third hour, or so, when that 'anticipation' eventually gave way to just trying to hang on until the end of 'The Marathon' !! Can't WAIT for those 'Happy Days' to be here AGAIN !!

There is a Golden Globe ceremony feel to the show.
