The greatest mistake the Academy ever made was sidelining the honorary awards at a separate ceremony. A guy like Roger Corman never got to stand before the main audience and talk about movies.

I just wonder how they will navigate the fact that European contribution to Western film is impossible to remove. You basically have to kill the art form to remove them.
I predict that they won't care if the ratings are worse than last year. They can't balance their fake political platform with popularity. It won't work. It would be like trying to promote Angolan sumu wrestlers in Japan. It wont replace the traditional.

Jesus Christ, they’re presenting Best Visual Effects now and they are not even going to show the damned effects work. Boricanator is right this is just dull. It’s respectable enough but it’s not that interesting. |

Sure, but most things have been getting cancelled during pandemic. I'm guessing this can't be easy to stage with all the vulnerable global link-ups. That's not to say they couldn't have done better in some regards.

I understand the limitations due to Covid. But if they were able to get all those people there maskless, they could’ve done some performances or some funny skits. |
