I’m so tired of people on Social Media whining about who deserves to win the award.
What are they supposed to do? Just hand someone an award because they died? Are we not forgetting that Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest actors of a generation.
It’s not like Chadwick Boseman was guaranteed a win.
The Oscars are supposed to be given to the BEST performance of any actor or film etc... Not a popularity contest...
Jesus. What is the Academy supposed to do? Just cherry pick ONLY people of different ethnicities other than Caucasian and then only give it to the ones deemed acceptable by the “woke” culture?
You vote on what you thought was the best performance. They did. It’s over.
Not to be mean, but Chadwick Boseman wasn’t on the same level as Sir Anthony Hopkins. It’s tragic he died, but everyone dies eventually.
Edit: Anthony Hopkins is the oldest Oscar winner. Why wasn’t that the headline?

And if Boseman won, people won complain he was awarded it largely due to his passing.
My thoughts on the Oscars overall -

That’s what I’m saying. People are ridiculous.

I didn’t even bother to watch. I gave up on the Academy years ago based off of American Beauty winning.

Yeah I turned off the radio when that happened and smoked a pack of Luckies that night. Think I tossed back a few Blatz’s along the way.

I just wish people wouldn't place so much value on the Oscars. They're just an advertisement for the industry, like any award ceremony. People act like the Oscar legitimizes or validates the work, as if the other nominees or plenty of films that weren't nominated didn't also feature outstanding efforts by all those involved. Time will tell which movies were legitimately great, because you'll always be able to find them on television and they'll always come up in conversation.
Saving Private Ryan is a great example. That movie is always on somewhere, and frequently brought up on these boards. Meanwhile Shakespeare In Love only ever gets mentioned in Oscar upset conversations, and I can't recall the last time I came across it on a program guide. As a film fan it can be frustrating when you see clearly foolish decisions being made by 'the academy,' but try to remember the Oscar isn't the be-all end-all of a film's legacy.

The Academy has never been about awarding the best, somebody lied to you.

The whole sphere of The Academy, professional critics, and sites like Rotten Tomatoes have lost all credibility in the last 5 years. Yes there was a time when people cared about the Oscars and looked forward to the awards but that time is long gone and isn't coming back.

Well that was the only prediction I made: people would be angry no matter who won.

People still watch and discuss Fargo to this day, while I'm sure very few people today have even heard of The English Patient, let alone watch it.

The fact people put so much into Twitter is just sad. Why do we care what a small minority think? Also people still care about the Oscars? Really?
