Boseman's performance was tremendous. I didn't see The Father. The way I read all the reviews and comments about Hopkins' performance, I think the right actor won. That’s another minor gripe I have. People who are complaining, I guarantee they haven’t even seen Hopkins performance. It’s always about race. “Same ole white dudes winning.”

I did not think the "Oscar too White" narrative a few years back was doing justice to promote better films.

I just think it’s crazy how they saved the Best Actor category for last, apparently assuming that Chadwick Boseman would win, only for the winner to be Anthony Hopkins, who didn’t even attend the ceremony. They really should’ve done Best Picture last like they usually do. That is the part I can understand people getting mad about. It hyped it up, only to let them down. But to be mad about the outcome i don’t agree with. I didn’t say rape culture was crap dumbass. I said things like canceling Pepe cause a SMALL MINORITY think he adds to rape culture is crap.

I just wish people wouldn't place so much value on the Oscars. They're just an advertisement for the industry, like any award ceremony. People act like the Oscar legitimizes or validates the work, as if the other nominees or plenty of films that weren't nominated didn't also feature outstanding efforts by all those involved. Time will tell which movies were legitimately great, because you'll always be able to find them on television and they'll always come up in conversation. Saving Private Ryan is a great example. That movie is always on somewhere, and frequently brought up on these boards. Meanwhile Shakespeare In Love only ever gets mentioned in Oscar upset conversations, and I can't recall the last time I came across it on a program guide. As a film fan it can be frustrating when you see clearly foolish decisions being made by 'the academy,' but try to remember the Oscar isn't the be-all end-all of a film's legacy. well of course not, often times the Oscars get the pick for best picture wrong subjectively. But alas, its still fun to spectate and watch and see if a movie you love has a chance, clearly many oscar prognosticators try not to take any of it way too seriously, I'd say ive agreed with maybe 5 winners within the last say 15 years? I am pretty sure many actors would agree with you.

I've mostly found posthumous awards to be disingenuous and a bit insulting.

I just looked up who Chadwick Boseman was. It’s because he was “Black Panther” and because he tragically died. That is all the fuss. “You gave a posthumous Oscar to Heath Ledger! But he’s white.” Heath Ledger actually gave a Tour de France performance as Joker.

I’m so tired of people on Social Media whining about who deserves to win the award. What are they supposed to do? Just hand someone an award because they died? Are we not forgetting that Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest actors of a generation. It’s not like Chadwick Boseman was guaranteed a win. The Oscars are supposed to be given to the BEST performance of any actor or film etc... Not a popularity contest... Jesus. What is the Academy supposed to do? Just cherry pick ONLY people of different ethnicities other than Caucasian and then only give it to the ones deemed acceptable by the “woke” culture? You vote on what you thought was the best performance. They did. It’s over. Not to be mean, but Chadwick Boseman wasn’t on the same level as Sir Anthony Hopkins. It’s tragic he died, but everyone dies eventually. Edit: Anthony Hopkins is the oldest Oscar winner. Why wasn’t that the headline? Look at these Tweets: Wow. Those tweets are ridiculous. Twitter really provides an amazing insight into human stupidity. I liked Boseman and it's very sad that he died so young, but no one is entitled to an Oscar. And things such as race shouldn't come into it. Talent and dedication are what earn people the Best Actor award. I'm glad Anthony Hopkins won. He's a superb actor and while I haven't yet seen The Father, the clips I have seen to date would indicate that this is going to be yet another top notch performance from him. Definitely looks to be one of the more intriguing titles released in 2020. Not that that's saying a lot, all things considered.

I’ll pretext it by saying I lost faith the year before but the AB win cemented it. I had to question my reality when Shakespeare in Love won over Saving Private Ryan the previous year.
I did not know that until now. That's ridiculous.

Lots of users on here and the politics forum claiming their don't give a shitness regarding the Oscars then going onto to give a shit about the Oscars anyway. Anthony Hopkins has always been overrated, he was only ever fantastic in Zorro and mediocre in everything else, whether that means Chadwick should've won whatever he was up against Anthony in or not is up to you.

No. Watch Remains of the Day. Magic (1978) is another one, that often seems to be a bit overlooked, sadly.
