Exactly!!! I thought the movie was a huge bore! Couldn't believe it won. It's the kind of prestige pic backed by Harvey Weinstein (see Shakespeare in Love) that is like catnip to the Academy.

Everyone has different feelings about what makes a great performance. If all voters were the same, there wouldn't be 5 nominees.
The Oscars are a famous and intriguing contest, it is a boon to win one, but it is just an awards show.
It takes nothing away from who Chadwick Boseman was, as a person, or an actor.

So they gave Anthony the award based on his performance and it pissed off the woke crowd. I think it is quite disrespectful to give a 'prestigious' award like Oscar to someone just because they died or due to some off-stage propaganda.

The term "woke" has lost its original meaning and intent, and is now used to sound like it really means something.

There is nothing wrong with the term SJW as it was originally intended, and nothing wrong in being a SJw, unless it's perverted into something extreme (like anything else).

Yeah because I love people telling me that a movie should win because of diversity, politics or that Pepe needs to be cancelled cause he’s part of rape culture and other crap.

None of that is woke or SJW. It's just stupid people saying stupid things and trying to make it fit into a box. I think award shows suck anyway, and are rarely any indication of what is good or bad. A lot of it is subjective as well.

There's nothing wrong with any of those words. Social. Heck, humans are by nature social creatures. Justice. There's nothing wrong with justice. It's part of wanting to live a good life. Warriors. Who wouldn't want to be a warrior. It's why heroes are so popular in storytelling. And those heroes are usually fighting for social justice.

You do seem to love to tell people they're wrong for feeling that way. That's just weird. Also, rape culture is not crap. Yikes.

I just think it’s crazy how they saved the Best Actor category for last, apparently assuming that Chadwick Boseman would win, only for the winner to be Anthony Hopkins, who didn’t even attend the ceremony. They really should’ve done Best Picture last like they usually do.

But to be mad about the outcome i don’t agree with.

Reminds me of this Judy Garland story - Expecting her to win for A Star is Born, a camera crew was at the hospital ready for her acceptance speech (she just given birth). Grace Kelly won the Best Actress Oscar instead.

This is why art contests are a joke. You cannot compare two art works especially in different genres etc and say "oh this is the best of the year." It is politicized.
Peter Cushing was never nominated and yet Laurence Olivier said he was the best film actor he knew. Cushing's reputation today is stronger than it was when he was alive--and that had nothing to do with the Oscars. Only film fans made that appraisal. Cushing is better remembered now than a number of actors who were routinely nominated or won awards.

I was watching sporadically, so I shut the TV off after Best Picture and didn't realize I missed the real ending.

Boseman's performance was tremendous. I didn't see The Father. The way I read all the reviews and comments about Hopkins' performance, I think the right actor won.
