I remember the last days of the old IMDb boards when it was Troll Central... Sorry, but that doesn't sound like a great idea.

I think many would abuse thumbs down. They do on Reddit anyhow.

People use the negative response for power, not to truly show displeasure.
some people with put a negative to get back at someone.
bad idea

Doenvoting means it's NOT contributing to a discussion. That's how it's supposed to work. Many use downvoting for a disagree feature over differences of opinion that aren't even expressed rudely in any way.

We might want one but we don’t actually need one.

Agree, then I could dislike all posts promoting capitalism and stooging for US interests. I also know who my enemies are when they dislike my posts and I put them on Russian watchlist.

Don't be intellectually lazy. If you dislike a post sufficiently to downvote it, be arsed enough to write a post explaining your reasons for the dislike.

I don't have to give reasons for liking a post, so why should I give reasons for disliking a post. The like button is too one-sided. Have both like and dislike options or none at all.

What's the difference between clicking dislike and typing out, "You're an idiot." Why make people type that out? I assure you, I make no one write things like that. If you dislike someone's post, my suggestion would be to simply not respond to it, or respond to it in a civilized, adult manner.

I think the like button serves a purpose as it gives you the opportunity to acknowledge that you read the person’s post but don’t want to keep talking about it. I think most people accept that but would probably react to a dislike button.

Or you could simply exercise your own free will and not use the Like option. Frankly, I see no point to having either, but I also see no reason to complain about one, both, or neither being offered. Life's too short. I also agree with a couple of the above posters that it was precisely this type of shite that helped open the door to so much havoc/trolling on the old IMDb boards. Why export it to here, when there's no particular need for it?
