I can tell you why people are leaving the Catholic Church.
The laity and priesthood are largely years ahead of the Vatican. The centre of the Church is being too slow to read the room and adjust doctrine accordingly.
The cardinals' obsessions aren't shared 'lower down'... Abortion, homosexuality, and contraception don't register at Parish level. We hold monthly Mass for LGBT+ Catholics in our Diocese, some European, US, and South American priests are going ahead and blessing gay couples' unions.
People are in favour of women priests, gay priests, married priests, whatever.
People are seeing the difference between the message of love, tolerance, and compassion taught at Mass, and the doctrine of the Church.
People just aren't entering Seminary anymore. Our priest is having to work three parishes instead of one. We are down from daily Mass in our parish, to Mass just twice a week, sometimes less if there's funerals to do, or Fr is called to minister to the sick/the dying.
Pope Francis is trying to evolve things, but the Cardinals have feet of clay.

PFFT. The host says he is leaving "Peterson's most powerful anecdote" until the end. You'd think it will provide at least some "anecdotal evidence" to support the contention that people are leaving the church because it is not demanding or challenging enough. But it's nothing of the kind, and doesn't even qualify as an anecdote. Peterson just describes a young man he saw (who was holding 2 shopping bags), and then Peterson indulges in pure speculation about this young man's state of mind.

Those were no ordinary shopping bags. Those were pink shopping bags!

People are leaving the church because there are better things out there. Like avocado on toast and Playstation 5.

The problem with statistics about people leaving the Churches is that they don't say anything about the member numbers. Maybe there are less people getting baptized, and therefore not joining a church in the first place.

There are multiple reasons why people aren't attending Church anymore and I assume the exposed corruption in the Roman Catholic Church is one of the reasons.
Jordan Peterson is holding onto religion for dear life. I don't think he believes most of it, he just believes it is useful and he himself seems to struggle with needing some overall meaning to everything and grasping at whatever can achieve that. He is the king of word salad when he gets talking about this stuff.
I am an on and off fan of Peterson.

Then I would suggest watching his debate with Matt Dillahunty and see if that changes, he says a lot of goofy things in it. At one point he even calls Soviet Union "secular humanist":

That is one of the reasons I say I am an only partly a fan. I watch everything Matt Dillahunty has put out there and I agree with him when he says that Peterson is a trainwreck in many areas. I honestly think Peterson means well, but is very confused in many ways. I think he works well in some ways as a counter to the far left.

People are leaving the church because that’s what the Bible says will happen in the latter days.
The main reason they’re leaving is two fold.
1) Is because of sin.
“This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the Light, for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the Light, and does not come to the Light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” John 3:19-20
And
2) Because many are being brainwashed and deceived by false teachers and doctrines of demons.
“But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,” 1 Timothy 4:1
Molecules to man evolution, new age teachings, Godlessness, moral relativism, woke culture, false religions and cults, communism etc are all included in this.

Evolution is fact What is new age teachings? Christianity is a new religion. Morals ARE relative You think people are leaving the church because of 'woke culture', because people are aware of, and care about, social justice/injustice? Communism? The Apostles and Disciples sold all their personal belongings and held everything in common... as Jesus instructed his followers to. It was the moneylenders he had beef with, the capitalists.

So, people are leaving because 1) they want darkness instead of the light, AND 2) they want light, but are being deceived by false light. Make up your mind.

That’s not why. It’s because too many Christians for too many centuries have embraced anti-Christian teachings. That you cats will not take responsibility for your own sin is destroying your own church. The true church has no permanent walls or Christian in name only pulpit demagogues and self-righteous pew warmers. What are these anti-Christian teachings you speak of?
