Understandably with space programs trying to make it to Mars, we are seeing more and more movies about space travel.
What do you think is the most common mistake scifi movies make?
I think it's the space crews not being trained and prepared the way people "in the know" know how space crews are trained and prepared.
In real life, there are thousands of applicants who go through a rigorous elimination period. Only the most qualified get to go.
They know "going in" the mission is dangerous. They are trained for emergencies. They don't flip out, scream, yell, and fight everytime things don't go as planned.
But many bad scifi movies have just that --- astronauts who would never pass the elimination period, and seem not to be trained for emergencies.
They just lazily put a soap opera in outer space. Generally speaking, soap opera characters are childish, ignorant and petty. All of these characteristics would disqualify any applicant.
What do you think?

During the making of Armageddon, Ben Affleck asked Michael Bay if it be easier to train astronauts to be oil drillers instead of training oil drillers to be astronauts. Bay’s response? “Shut the fuck up.”

Bay’s response? “Shut the fuck up.” I remember that one. Makes me laugh every time I read it. In the old days (up until the 1960s I guess) one thing that was almost always wrong was that instead of filming the rocket vertically with the flames coming out downward and then flipping the image on its side, the rockets almost inevitably have the flames arcing upwards a bit when it’s supposedly flying in space. Minor technical quibble but it always bothers me.

When they have aliens in it honestly. Because most evidence leads to the fact that aliens don't exist.

And most people and scientists agree, there is probably life elsewhwere in the Universe. Our planet (Earth) and star (Sun) are not the oldest planets and stars in the Universe. So it highly probable intelligent life exist somewhere else in the Universe.

Two of the most common mistakes are fundamental to how the movies are made. The aliens are humanoid because it's easier to have an actor than a puppet and the gravity is normal Earth gravity because they'd again, have to use puppets or CGI humans. Then there's the whole 'asteroids are close together' trope and all sorts of implausibly large creatures that defy gravity among other tropes of plot convenience.

Personally any sci-fi movie without a hostile alien (s) will get no time (or space) from me.
Lost astronauts trying to get home, a dodgy virus turning folk into mad mush monsters, rogue computers, dirty great big meteorites hurtling towards Seattle, English speaking humanoid aliens wearing odd slap-on make-up, on-ship soap operas...... .....and suchlike would bore me beyond stultifyingly rigid

Hearing sound when the characters are in space. Outer space is a vacuum in which sound waves can not be heard.

Universal Translators and Artificial Gravity Plating In Starships...
Yeah, I know, it makes things easier to tell stories...
But, I expect, more often than not...
Those things won't be very common for the Ships we send out, and Aliens we meet.
We'll spend days floating around our communications rooms, just trying to say "hello" to each other.
At least some of the more recent media, has tried to be more realist about that.

When they left the Lunar Module to Walk On The Moon, the "environment" sounds were eliminated... But still, Space Battles wouldn't be very exiting with out them. Image how the opening scene of Star Wars (4 - A New Hope) would have been if we didn't hear the laser blasts with the two ships in orbit of Tatooine...

Yes, when we first meet a new species of humanoids, no computer or humanoid could translate. But eventually linguist would decifer each language. If both species are advanced and have advanced technology, they could quickly work together to to interpret and translate. Same thing with artificial gravity. It's just a matter of time.

When they have aliens in it honestly. Because most evidence leads to the fact that aliens don't exist. When you have explored every corner of our infinite universe... and found it empty of life. Then, you can make that claim... Until then, that is just YOUR opinion. Movie makers and many fans, don't agree... Which is why there are still Alien films being made.

Please provide us with your research about how big the universe is, where are the edges of our universe and what they are like, and what surrounds it all... Are the edges like a balloon? would ships bounce off of them if they hit them?

There is nothing we know of that is more vast than the Universe. It's so big we cannot see where it starts or ends. I think that qualifies as vast.
